You ever get sick of people thinking something you do is weird? What's their motivation? If the commentary is included in so many videos, that's the film industry saying it's pretty typical to want to hear it. I certainly do.
Mind you, there's different quality commentaries. I like less technical stuff and more anecdotal, so I favor directors and actors. Even though the movies have gotten pretty annoying to me, the Lord of the Rings commentaries were especially enjoyable because of the way they were done. I believe this was on the extended cut collections, but it's been a while. They have multiple options, and one is the actors. They layered separate commentary from many of the major players, and got the four "hobbits" to comment in one session, so whenever their comments come up, they generally crack jokes, often at each others' expense. Sean Astin tries to be serious but it doesn't work. And the dude who playing Denethor is as likable in real life as he is obnoxious in the film.
A Knight's Tale also had good commentary, as they use the chance to repeatedly reply with sarcasm to people who had scoffed at the anachronisms in the movie... "Apparently 'We Will Rock You' wasn't recorded until later on. Really? I didn't know that." And the guy who played Chaucer commented with the director because they were buddies.
And Weird Al commenting on UHF is almost better than the original movie.
But yeah, I watch 'em! I'm backed up on that, in fact. It's hard with kids around. I still want to see the commentary on "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead." Not kid stuff.
