I loved Spartacus. I didn't know it was an "LGBT" movie. Perhaps some might say it was homo-erotic in parts, if they want to view it that way.

the homoerotic parts qualify it. plus there was some primo beefcake in there as well.

Does the Wizard of Oz count as an LGBT movie, what with Judy Garland being an icon and all?

it does in a subtle way, in that the main male characters [scarecrow, tinman and cowardly lion] were kind and supportive to each other, or at least weren't beastly to each other they way they'd be in most other films. hey, it's something.

what was it about the film which turned you off? too much singing and dancing? just wondering, that was the most common explanation i've heard.

It's typical of most films of that era.

Even though it's not exactly an LGBT movie, I enjoyed American Beauty.

I thought that was a beautiful movie. Another one that was violent and disturbing but still very beautiful with a gay character was Sling Blade.

If we're including movies with one or two gay supporting characters, I just watched "Boys on the Side" last night and although it's a bit high on the cheese factor, I enjoyed it.

Also, everything by John Waters.

I think a great LGBT movie is Chuck and Buck. For those familiar with the movie, I would like to state for the record, yes, it is creepy and icky on more than one level. That's why I asked my wife to get if for me for my birthday.

Yes, I think that was it - too much singing and dancing.
I must be a misery guts.
I do like some songs from musicals though (like Singing in the Rain and You'll Never Walk Alone).

there are some folk who are fond of watching wizard but turning down the sound and instead listening to pink floyd's "dark side of the moon" which is said to eerily match the movie musical cue to scene. so that might be your option to watch the movie if you can't take its original soundtrack. or you could fast-forward past the dancing scenes.

It's a childhood nostalgia thing for Americans of a certain age. In life before cable, it was only shown once or maybe twice a year and it was a special treat from the usual big 3. It's kind of campy fun too.

A Streetcar Named Desire mentions a deceased gay man. Although they didn't exactly mention that he was gay (since the movie came out in the '50s and at that time such things were not allowed in movies), they did subtly suggest it. The suggestions are more blatant in the play version.

We tried that once. We were told to cue the album and then wait until the MGM lion roared the third time and start the album on that cue. It did match up in very interesting ways but the movie is much longer than the album and we weren't sure whether to repeat the album (and what to cue it on) or to play a different album or what so it still won't get a person all the way through the movie unless they add something to the formula.

The Mudge Boy is pretty subtle about two boys and their relationship-its a pretty good movie.

A lot of people say that Rebel Without a Cause has certain homosexual undertones, in that the character Plato has a crush on the main character whom James Dean portrays (I forgot the name of that character).

Rebel Without a Cause was a good movie.
