i am a sucker for anything having to do with time travel and alternate timelines, so #2 was #1 for me. this old timer saw 'em all when they were originally released in theatres. when the first one came out back in 1985 i remember wishing for a sequel, and i didn't get my wish 'till '89, which made me eagerly await the 3rd and final one in 1990. i wish they'd make more of 'em.

Part 2 was my favorite, followed by Part 3, then Part 1.

Favorite scene: Cafe '80s

Good sir, all 3 are on my list of all time favorite movies; doesn't mean I don't have a certain order of love though

I saw BttF about a year or so ago. I must be missing something because I didn't understand the appeal of it. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's just not to my tastes. On the plus side, it has Crispin Glover in it, and I'm a fan of his.

Like many here, loved part 1...was not so keen on parts 2 and 3 although, oddly enough, I did see part 2 in the theater when it first came out.

I have the "Back to the Future" DVD set...love the deleted scenes feature from part 1!

MARTY (as Darth Vader, holding a hair dryer): My heat ray will vaporize you if you do not obey me!

GEORGE: Okay, okay. I surrender, I surrender.

MARTY: You, George McFly, have created a rift in the space-time continuum!

GEORGE: I'm sorry. I didn't mean it.

MARTY: Sorry doesn't cut it, George. The Supreme Klingon hereby commands you to bring the female unit known as Baines Lorraine to the place called Hill Valley High School exactly four Earth cycles from now. That's this Saturday night, George.

Classic parody of bad Fifties science fiction with clever pop culture references thrown in. I wonder why this scene got cut.

I love the whole series, in fact I've seen all of them that I could quote them line for line. I originally saw all three of them from an early age (sure they're PG but that was in the 80's before PG-13) and I really thought part II was the best because the actually went into the future. Now from a kid's standpoint I thought it was freaking amazing and that was what the future would be like. I never really liked part III as a kid mainly because it was in the old west. Nowadays I appreciate each one for what it is and what it has to offer. You have to admit that while the sequels were never intended, they sure as hell completed the story and made it feel whole.

I always say "Back to the Future", meaning the overlying story and treat it as such. Maybe it's because there's already three parts, but it would feel incomplete without one of them. I like watching the trilogy all in a row and noticing the similarities between 1985, 1955, 2015, and 1885. I really hope it doesn't fall under the recent wave of bad 80s remakes (Karate Kid doing kung fu, A-Team that Mr. T pities you for seeing). Leave it the way it is and without a mystical "fourth part".

I disagree, the original BttF was clearly standalone. The ending was And The Adventure Continues, not an actual sequel hook. The guys in charge said that if they'd actually expected to make a sequel, they wouldn't have had Jennifer join Doc and Marty in the car.

I also think the first movie was great by itself and should have left it alone. There's a huge plot hole at the start of the third movie that made the entire movie pointless. Which is:

1) Doc gets sent back to the 1800s from 1955 when the machine is hit by lightning at the end of part 2.
2) Doc hides the machine and it makes its way back to 1955.
3) Marty goes back to the 1800s in the time machine to find Doc. There are now 2 time machines back in the 1800s.
4) Fuel line gets severed on Marty's time machine so they go through the 3rd movie because they can't go into the future without gasoline (or the train) to power the drivetrain on the car.

BUT - there's a second time machine with a perfectly good gas line (and presumably gasoline) that Doc hid. They could have repaired Marty's machine with the parts from Doc's and got the machine running without involving the train, etc.
