For me, it's hard to say. I only watch shows I really like so because I like them, I don't think they're overrated. If I don't watch a show, I have no basis to make an informed opinion on it and therefore, can't say with any accuracy whether or not it's overrated.
Agreed. But I do have some shows I have either come across or had to see because of people I live with.
SEINFELD
As so many have already said. It's interesting to see how often this has been mentioned so far. Imagine a show that displays illogical, inconsiderate jerks doing stupid things and never learning one stinking thing from the disastrous consequences... Imagine it NOT appealing to people who spend huge amounts of time trying their best to be nice and getting some pretty disappointing results. I hate shows that show people acting in a stupid, inappropriate and embarrassing way. And yet, sometimes the ridiculous behavior I see on tv is funny. I still haven't quite worked out what the magic ingredient is that makes the ridiculous become more comfortable to watch. And obviously, neither have the people who make TV shows.
Also:
Hannah Montana (we kept seeing her horrible facial mugging during commercials while waiting for the far superior Phineas and Ferb to continue... I couldn't figure out how a tween kid could be stupid enough to think she's worth watching.)
And GLEE!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !!
I have only "watched" one episode of Glee. It was not voluntarily. I was at the laundromat and they had it playing SO LOUD that my ear buds could not block it out. Here's what I got from the parts that forced themselves to be heard:
Pensive caterwauling montage.
A lot of serious jabber
For reasons I could not fathom (I didn't know what show it was yet) another montage
Teen griping
Howling, shrieking, wailing show-stopper musical performance
Surely it must be over
Another blaring, blasting show-stopper
Man, I hate network TV.
