^ You're right. Thanks for pointing that out. Now I have to go see who Mel Brooks is. Oh, is he an older guy with a wrinkly face and a big nose? If so, I really like his movies and think he's a great actor. I don't think this is going very well. Okay, I'm outta here.

I love them! :D My favourite ones are Spaceballs, Silent Movie, and History of the World Part I.

They were planning a sequel to History of the World Part I, but it never came to pass.

I didn't know that.. I know at the end they have a "preview" but I thought it was just part of the movie.. but I always wished that they'd make it.

i would suggest that you might consider watching "blazing saddles" - "young frankenstein" - "life stinks" - "high anxiety" in that order. mel was also the genius behind both "get smart" and "the elephant man." a much more complicated man than external appearances would indicate.

External appearances mean very little, and I'm all for complicated. I was trying to figure out who he was and since learned he's a director. I'm familiar with those movies and will have to see them again, soon! Thanks for the recommendation. :)

Really? No love for "Blazing Saddles"?

I think that and "Young Frankenstein" are genius, and the other movies are so-so in comparison.

(Gives thread life)

I looked at Blazing Saddles again. Now I own it on DVD! I got it at a very good price!

am i the only one here who put in a plug for "life stinks"? granted, that film seemed to play a lot better on the small screen than the big one. it could have been a made-for-tv flick, with a laugh track.

Blazing Saddles is maybe one of THE funniest movies ever made. With racial sensitivities today (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being racially sensitive), Blazing Saddles couldn't be made today, just due to the N word being flung around so liberally. Even though the people using it are generally shown to be cretins.
High Anxiety for me comes in a close second. Who says you can't spoof Hitchcock! I first saw High Anxiety on TV as a little kid, and I remember laughing so hard that I almost wet my pants. I got High Anxiety for a girl I was dating years ago when her birthday rolled around. She only thought the movie was so-so. We ended up going our separate ways soon after.

Love Mel Brooks and all his shtick. There is no other director like him.
Trying to pick a favorite movie or line is hurting my head, however 'Putn' on the Ritz' is one song I want played at my funeral.

may the Schwartz be with you all

I have Young Frankenstein almost memorized...;) Blazing Saddles I don't think they could make nowadays, it drops the 'n-word' like the Sopranos drops the f-bomb...;)

I found history of the world part 1 to be a bit forced with the lame pot jokes (though it is good ta be da king...;) Ever since then, I've missed a few here and there...

Still, there's a lot of good material in them
