This should be a thread I'll love. Because I generally hate everything that is popular (that I don't know). I can enjoy a popular TV series or a popular film, as long as it appeals to me. After all, I am absolutely obsessed with "Finding Nemo" and I love the "Lord of the Rings" film series and they are immensely popular.

Friends
XD I have a long history with that series. I can understand why people hate it, but I loved everything about it. The characters, the title theme, the look of the studio sets of their apartments...

Lost
Oh, Lost... I have watched several episodes and didn't get the point. I just thought it was very boring.

TV talent shows (American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, America's Got Talent, etc.)
Indeed. Worst of all, I find them very depressing. I have watched a lot, but it's nothing I'd choose to watch on my own.

Star Wars
Hahaha, Star Wars was fun. I watched Episode 3 in cinema and I laughed so hard. But yes... Star Wars is not very serious.

Most horror movies
I don't see the point. Horror films are just... bad?

The Big Bang Theory
Two and a Half Men
There is something about the Big Bang Theory that really pisses me off. Two and a Half Men... I can watch it like I can watch almost any sitcom, but it's very bad objectively speaking.

Didn't hate Gladiator but thought it was very over-rated
I have to watch it again for Joaquin Phoenix. I never got to the parts where he appears because 3 hours is too long. It is very lengthy.

I hate the daily soaps that you mentioned. There is hardly anything, besides bad reality TV an horror films, that I hate as much as daily soaps. They're just very boring.
For those three though... I have to admit that I have watched them a lot with my sister, despite the great trash factor.

Malcolm in the Middle
Lost in Translation
I loooove Malcolm in the Middle, but I love Lost in Translation even more.
I generally think that Sofia Coppola's films are great.

Reality TV shows and most action movies are pretty generic.
There IS the odd action film that is actually good, but then the film crosses genre boundaries and it includes other things besides burning cars and dumb men.

pixar movies outside of wall*E
You like Wall-E, but not Finding Nemo. That's interesting. I always perceived Finding Nemo as a film that most people find more tolerable than Wall-E. I watched Wall-E in the cinema when it was out and was a bit let down, but I like it more these days. You don't like Toy Story? Omg, I loved the second film so much. It was so cute. And I'm in love with Rex. He's my favourite character from the, um, trilogy. ^^
I hate a lot of series and films, but I always push them out of my mind when I am at home. There's no point in getting upset over something that is so useless. But I always get the feeling that films and TV shows are so important to people, in the sense that they add some kind of cultural meaning to them. I have often encountered the situation where people were surprised I didn't know a film or TV show or a particular actor. As if there were no alternatives. It's also suggesting, even if those who say it do not intend to do that, that I have no real knowledge of film or TV. I understand that most of that is a creation of my own mind, but I would never give anyone else the feeling that they lack knowledge and that this is a weird thing. I just accept it.
What I love is discussions like... "You have never seen "Amélie"? You have to!" People never give actual reasons why I should have watched it. All I know that as a kid I did not watch many films, just like I didn't own every toy or listened to every popular band.
But what I almost hate even more is when other people slag off actors they hate. You do not have to like actors just like you don't have to like a particular film or a particular director. It's called personal taste.
I try to be less of a film and TV show nazi. It works if I make an effort. Which reminds me... I have to continue watching "Six Feet Under". I only watched the pilot a couple of weeks ago. Um, yes. I always thought I'd hate the series because I knew nothing about it. But now I think it's great.
