The argument was that Christian churches 'require' it's members to tithe. Flimsy, if you ask me. I've never come across a Christian church that required you to tithe.

Jesus doesn't need tithes. He makes all his money fixing sports for the vegas mob...

@OP: I'm still confused why people consider this a "religion." Have they run out of lunatic ideas from other religions, and started making up their own?

I consider it to be a cult because of the way they control and manipulate their adherents. Their current leader, David Miscavige, has been known to be violent on numerous occasions.

They only wanted to be considered a "religion" to avoid having to pay taxes.

Oh God no. I could come up with a better science fiction story than what is called Scientology. Halo, the video game, is a better science fiction story...

Totally lol. I would rather worship the Forerunner then a bunch of alien souls trapped inside of me, who had previously been frozen, dropped in lava, soul-captured, indoctrinated for millions of years and then finding their way in to me to make negative emotions. God, what the hell was L Ron smoking when he came up with that, and where do I sign up to get some?

It doesn't matter what he was smoking, son... The important thing is, he lit it with a $1000.00 bill. 8)

The only Scientologist I've seen in person justified that you really do not need a religion to be sane or exist...the scariest looking person I have EVER seen. You could smell the brainwash.

Let us have a moment of silence for the hundreds of thousands of Imperial soldiers who will never return home to their families
On that note, I read that a noticeable minority of people on some Canadian survey listed their religion as 'Jedi'

Give it a century or two and it will have just as much credibility as Christianity, Islam and other globally adhered cults.

Just watch as America becomes a Scientoligist Theocracy, that would be hilarious to see. If only I could be around...

to me thats a big plot hole in the story after the destruction of both death stars there was like 100,000 storm troopers that died. i know about the whole clone thing but surely there are a fraction of them that are regular people that joined up

Even though it is clearly a cult, some people consider it a religion, because they are afraid to criticize any belief system other than Christianity, out of fear of being called a bigot.
