Letters From Iwo Jima (I think thats the title) was very intense for me. Specifically the scene where all of the soldiers in the cave started pulling the pins from their grenades and blowing themselves up. I actually had to pause the movie to collect myself from that. Its not like I was crying or anything, but just that it was very....I guess emotional to watch something like that and know that it actually happened.

A Clockwork Orange, is the only movie I can think of at the moment.
It was just twisted and awful, yet interesting.

Yeah... Straw Dogs is another in that vein.

For horror, The Exorcist really freaked me out as a kid.

Let me ponder...

Hotaru no Haka -- aka "Grave of the Fireflies." is one that springs to mind,

Certainly there have been others, but the level of engagement always changes with time. "The Crucible" was one, as I recall. And more recently "Barefoot Gen" (another anime)... In high school at around the time of ANZAC day, our teacher showed us "Gallipoli" and also a mockumentary whose title I forget, about a nuclear attack on Britain. Also "In the Name of the Father"

But as I said these are all no less great stories to me, but the level of intensity has tended to drop since the first time I saw them.

Fire walk with me (Twin Peaks prequel) and Lilya 4-ever. So sad and bleak :(

That was hard to take.

I didn't think Winslet had it in her to play such a hard case.

Jeah I was ready for a bland sob story but turned out to blow me away and even made me cry at the end.

Great film.

The movie that overwhelmed me the most and that i'm still obsessed with is The Phantom of the Opera. Maybe because music is such a big part of my life and i could really relate to the Phantom as being the outcast, always misunderstood and disliked...

I also loved Dogville, Bram Stoker's Dracula, the Black Swan, Adaptation and Hard Candy.

I have seen many great movies, but I never felt moved, elated or reflective. I never cried because of movie. I'm disabled.
