The original. I liked their Wonka better, because he reminded me of... well, me.

A world of pure imagination, indeed!

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory- 1. the original book is called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so name it after the book you're
basing it on for crying out loud!
2. Charlie's the main character, so even though Willy Wonka is the 1 who owns the factory, name
it after Charlie.
3. Take that Simonono! You're wrong!

Therefore, the real title of the movie should be Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Oi, don't bring that back. I know I was wrong, it's over.

Well I've only seen about half of the original, so I can't confirm that one to be my preference. I loved the remake though. It was so weird and slightly creepy, but brilliant, as are all of Burton's films. I remember at the time they actually brought out Willy Wonka chocolate bars in real life :D.

I was shocked seeing Johnny Depp's complete transformation from Jack Sparrow to Willy Wonka. Wow...

p.s. the original should've been named charlie and the chocolate factory, and the remake should've been named willy wonka and the chocolate factory

Both versions have their strengths. The older movie is definitely much more memorable (e.g. "the snozzberries taste like snozzberries") and it's a bit "brighter" while the newer one is much more faithful to the book.

The original, by far. With Tim Burton, Danny Elfman, Johnny Depp, and Christopher Lee, the remake should've been awesome, but I was very disappointed by it. It's kind of odd to me that a lot of people seem to think the remake was darker, because I don't think it was nearly as dark. Even the Oompa Loompas aren't creepy anymore, trading the demented chants for the likes of pop, disco, and hair metal. And I thought all the strange humor of the original just ended up being forced and unfunny in the remake.

the original. by far. the songs, the atmosphere, the acting (especially from gene wilder). amazing. the new one was stupid. the songs were less than memorable, the atmosphere was weird and creepy, the acting was bad (ESPECIALLY FROM DEPP, i mean i like him, but, just no). the factory is supposed to be fun and magical, not weird creepy, and mentally scarring. but the new one did fix a few problems (the chocolate river, the everlasting gobstopper, and the shrinking down chocolate scene). they also made violet a brat, and they made it clear that only KIDS can win a trip to the factory, not adults. but everything else in the movie sucked

The original, definitely. As much as I love Depp, the remake SUUUUCKED.

I usually prefer the older version, and I liked its musical selections.. However, I was more mesmerized by the newer version. I prefer Johnny Depp's characterization over Gene Wilder's. But most of all it made me want to eat some chocolate after watching it, so it must have been good

The new one keeps up better with the original story, while adding in a few new bits and changing the characters.
The older one has the characters match those from the story better, although the story is not quite the same.

Older one's the preference.

I love both movies, but Gene Wilder's my guy on this one. For some reason, I really really liked all the identical Oompa Loompas in the remake though...

The original one by far. I like Burton sometimes, but he really ruined everything that was so good about the original for me, especially Johnny Depp's obnoxious Wonka. Give me the whimsical feel of the original over the "darker" new one any day.

the original use to irritate me when I used to have to watch it. I don't like the remake either, but a vote for it is a vote against the original in my book.

I pick Charlie. Will y Wonka is kind of boring in spots. Depp's more entertaining

I like the older one because it was the one I grew up with and it has a more memorable quality to it.
Depp was just really creepy as Wonka.
