I took a moment and looked it up. The first filmed version of "Alice" dates back to 1903. The Hollywood version I mentioned was made in 1933. Its quite interesting to go through the various interpretations.
The other one I mentioned was the Hanna Barbera version made in 1966, with the voice of Sammy Davis Jr. as the Cheshire Cat.

The tv two parter with sammy davis jr and many other famous actors and actresses.

The new movie is totally erratic, especially the character of the "Mad Hatter". Strange enough, he is the only reason making the movie worth watching. There is no Alice story at all. If anything, I would recommend to read the book.

I really didn't like the Tim Burton version. Although I haven't really seen any versions that I like, I prefer the book.
