I forgot to add 1984 (the John Hurt, Richard Burton version). My wife hated it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think Soylent Green was a wonderful adaptation of the Harry Harrison novel -Make room, make room-.

The death scene of Sol Roth, Thorn's "book" broke me up. Edward G. Robinson was nearly dead from cancer when he shot that scene. He died shortly after the movie was done. I cannot listen to Bethoven's -Pastoral- without getting a bit of a lump in my throat.

Some of my favourite sci fi films are:

Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Eternal Sunshine
Contact
ET
Star Wars III-VI. Actually I quite like II as well. But I wouldn't normally admit that.
12 Monkeys
Edward Scissorhands
Donnie Darko
The Fifth Element
Starman
Close Encounters
Alien/s/3
Gattaca
Logan's Run
Total Recall
Flash Gordon
The Man Who Fell to Earth
Escape from New York
Cube
Starship Troopers
Mars Attacks
Stepford Wives
Serenity
The Fly
War Games
Galaxy Quest (sorry)
Terminator 2
Predator
All Star Treks, even the ones with polo necks.
District 9 (although its also depressing)
Explorers
Event Horizon
Stargate

Ok I'll stop now. I quite like sci fi films. Including terrible ones.

And are they ever going to make an Ender's Game film?
