Galaxy quest requires having seen enough Star Trek to make sense of the jokes...;) I actually liked the Sci-Fi channel adaptation of Dune (well, the first 30 hours or so...was it really that long?...;) than the 80s version (which hasn't aged well, but neither have I...;)

Galaxy Quest is actually one of my favourite films. Star Trek is one of my interests, so yes, that helps. It's an interesting role for Sigourney Weaver too. I'm not sure if Moog has seen enough Star Trek to fully appreciate Galaxy Quest?

I noticed how many people picked the Matrix. I lolled.

Although Star Wars was my first sci-fi film and the fandom I'm mostly active in, and although Solaris, Blade Runner, and 2001 are very near and dear to my heart, I picked Moon because it felt like the most plausible and was the most enjoyable movie for me. The music for Moon inspire me to teach myself piano. Also, the movie was the first movie that I like more than TEBS.

Don't talk crap about Galaxy Quest. I, for one, thought it was hilarious. Same with Space Balls. I will never forget it when Dark Helmet says "I knew it, I'm surrounded by as*holes!"

Close Encounters sucks! Put Metropolis in its stead :P

Just be grateful I didn't put Galaxy Quest in. :P

I don't know how bad it is, I've never bothered to watch it.

I also way prefer Mad Max 2 over the first film.

Can we just have a 'Moog's opinions on everything' thread? :P

You're welcome to create one. How about a Moog's 'Thought for the Day' thread?
You could be Wrong Planet's very own Terry Wogan.

You know how to flatter Moog.

For the record, I don't know how bad or good Galaxy Quest is, having never seen it.

Also, I have probably seen more trek than the average bear.

I voted for 'Other'. Children of Men wasn't on the list. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind would've been second for me.

I can't just pick one. I know it's cheating, but here's how I'd rank the ones listed in the poll first to last (I'm putting the original Star Wars as my "other").

2001: A Space Odyssey
Star Wars
Alien
The Empire Strikes Back
Blade Runner
Forbidden Planet
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
The Terminator
Planet of the Apes (1968)
The Matrix
Solaris (1972)
Moon
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
District 9
Mad Max (1979)
12 Monkeys
Donnie Darko

I haven't watched The Fly (1986), Dune, or Sunshine yet so it wouldn't be fair to rank them. IMO, from what I know about them, none of them would be top 10 material anyways.
