1) Star Wars Episodes V The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
2) The Dark Knight (2008)
3) Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope (1977)

NOTE: I'm not 100% sure that I would consider Empire my favourite movie. It's either that or The Dark Knight.

1) Wall-E (the first half hour is the best piece of movie I've ever seen)
2) The Dark Knight (an absolute work of art. It's such a long movie, but you never realise it until it's over)
3) The Green Mile (a bit iffy whether or not it deserves to be this high, but I do love this movie)

Honourable mentions would be the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy (mostly the first and third movies, though), Shawshank Redemption, Cruel Intentions and Mulan.

I'm probably forgetting a ton of great movies that I love and will remember later on and slap myself for.

Muriel's Wedding (1994).
Bangkok Hilton (1989) although this was more a mini series.
Born Free (1966)

It's hard when I like a lot of films.

I read about the dvd versions of bangkok hilton and it sounds at least on wikipedia that none of them is worth ordering. Do you have a dvd copy and if so where did you get it?

I've always preferred World Cinema, including (not to sound too bigoted) British Cinema. :)

I also really enjoyed Das Boot (1981).

Currently they are:

"Brand Upon The Brain"
"The American Astronaut"
"Paris, Texas"

And sometimes "Playtime" by Jacques Tati.

I have the film on DVD 'cause I like the German language so much.

The only line I can remember from the film is "Na wirklich, haben sie an Sie gepinkelt?"
"So, actually they peed on you?" :)

Oh, yeah, I also learned the word "Abtauchen!" from there...
"Dive!"

Wuthering Heights, 1939
The Man from Earth, by Jerome Bixby
Brick, by Rian Johnson

Honorable mentions go to
The Virgin Spring, by Ingmar Bergman
Vollmond (Full Moon) by Fredi M. Murer
M, by Fritz Lang

Heathers

Another motif burned into my head; lighting a cigarette off of your lover's burning flesh as a nihilistic tribute.

Rian Johnson said Heathers was an influence when he made Brick.

I did too. It blew me away, and was pretty much glued to the chair for the full 4 hours of it.

lol. The German Language Version is the best. I have no interest in watching the dubbed.
