everyone that watches movies uses them as a way to escape reality for a while some are just more concious of the fact that they do than others.

Not really... it's just a movie. I'm not 'escaping' anything. I'm watching a movie. I don't see how watching tv or a play or reading a book is escaping reality.

It's an "escape" in the sense that you're distracting yourself from the real world by focusing on a fictional one. You don't need to be sucked into it and confuse reality with fantasy.

Sounds like any pastime could be described as 'escaping reality'. I don't watch TV to distract myself from reality.

Absolutely. It's one of the best ways to escape.

Of course. There are certain movies I watch again and again. After awhile I feel like I live inside them, taking the roles of the various characters at random. I suppose this is a totally safe form of social interaction: the characters can't deviate from the script and should I feel uncomfortable, I can just stop the movie. I'm afraid I often learn social behavior from movie and TV characters, rather than live people.

I guess in a way so do I. Everytime I watch something Transformers related (or even think about it) that has Peter Cullen as the voice as Optimus Prime, I can't resist impersinating him, in a way become him.

Sometimes after watching a really good movie, I feel like I "become" my favorite character. Sometimes the feeling of "being" the character is so intense that it surprises me to look into the mirror and see my own face staring back at me rather than theirs. It's kind of a bizarre feeling, but it only lasts for a couple of hours at most.

Sometimes I create my own fantasies when I see something on TV or in film. For example wouldn't it be cool if they did a crossover between Ben 10 Ultimate Alien and Transformers Prime. I know it's impossible but still. I'm not a huge fan of Ben 10, though I do sometimes like to watch the show on CN sometimes and I keep an eye on the show epsecially with the Generator Rex crossover happening. I love the new Transformers show(despite the utter annoyance of the character Miko) though because I am a bit of a fan when it comes to Transformers and I totally love that the creators brought back Peter Cullen(Optimus Prime) and Frank Welker(Megatron) from the G1 animated series and animated movie from the 80s, also Cullen was Prime again in the live action movie trilogy. I also love the voices of Steve Blum(Starscream) and Jeffrey Combs(Ratchet), they sound awesome. One of the things I don't like about Ben 10 are the characters Gwen, Kevin and especially Julie. I don't hate them completely they're likeable at times but when their not it's when they usually gang up on Ben for being arrogant, sarcastic or jerk like, though to be fair you can't exactly blame them 100% because Ben can be most of those things I just said, but you supposed to side with him because he's the main character. But if Ben 10 could meet face to face with the Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime then he could set him straight and make him a better hero through the awesomeness of epic speeches from his epic booming voice while Brian Tyler's music plays over. Also he could form a bond with Bumblebee since that is happening quite alot now. Ratchet of course seems to have a temper when it comes to the human kids on the show so how would he react with Ben and Co.

To quote Raul Julia from Street Fighter, "OF COURSE!"

While there are a number of films I watch for their impact on film history or to gage an actor's performance, escapism is still the number one driving reason I love movies. Naturally one can watch a film that can preach a unique idea or has some social relevance, but it's really not much if you can't get lost in the film and enjoy it for what it is.

Sometimes, though it depends on the movie and the story. I don't do it as often as I used to. However, I still escape into fantasy with some tv shows nowadays. Again, though, it depends on the show and the story told.
