I've just seen the 1st 6 episodes; are there more?
Not yet. And I don't think Sherlock has Asperger's, the episode corrects and says he's a sociopath. I still dig it though, my wife assumed he had Asperger's at first.
He might have both.

I've seen this show about a million times. I am terrible at figuring out people, but give me a good TV show and I can write you a thesis on characterization.
I think Sherlock thinks he's a sociopath. Or he would like to be one, but as we can see from later episodes, this is clearly not the case. Sociopaths don't sacrifice themselves for their friends. Sociopaths don't apologize for their behavior. Sociopaths don't get their hearts broken. I think it's more likely that Sherlock has Asperger's or maybe a sort of personality disorder and that he has built up a wall to keep others away - like the illusion of Sociopathy, whether consciously or subconsciously.
What is a high functioning sociopath anyway? HFA makes sense because Autism is known to be the result of slower development of the brain, but sociopaths lack empathy, not brain function. So if you're a sociopath, but you're feeling empathy, then you're not a sociopath.
