The Thrawn Trilogy would be more likely. I can't see the New Jedi Order/Yuuzhan Vong War being done by Disney, that series was exceptionally gory.

the Thrawn trilogy only takes place 5 years after Return of the Jedi, so.... Yeah, I can't picture anyone but Harrison Ford as Han Solo, and for the most part the same goes for the rest of the cast.

I honestly hope they don't try and base it off an existing book, comic, or game. Most of the extended universe is garbage anyways and makes the prequels look like brilliantly written works of art in comparison. Even the Thrawn trilogy, widely considered the best of the lot, still has some really dumb stuff in it. Luuke comes to mind...

Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 are the best written stories outside of the movies, by a mile. Still a shame the ending of 2 was rushed by Lucasarts wanting a holiday release.

Remember that Disney also owns Miramax. The Kill Bill movies weren't exactly kiddie fare...

I agree that the previous actors are far too old to play roles now and they have gone far enough with that storyline, a KOTOR film would be perfect and I could see the casting along the lines of this.

Reven - Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Thor)

Bastila - Kate Beckinsale (Total Recall, Underworld)

Carth - Karl Urban (Dredd 3D)

Jolee Bindo - Idris Elba (Prometheus)

Dangerous thinking . . .

I did hear a rumor a very long time ago that George Lucas wanted the series to go on after he was gone . . . but it was just a rumor, and I lodged it away as something I misheard somewhere. Deja vu.

They will probably ask some people such as Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and so on to make a cameo appearance. But let's face it, age has taken its toll. They will probably keep the movie tradition and concentrate on the next generation with new characters. Perhaps Ben Skywalker and all Han and Leia's kids. R2D2 and C3PO will be back, I'm sure. Can't kill them off even if you wanted to (and who does?).

Do it right, Disney. Don't ruin another franchise.

WOAAAAHHH... That made tears come outa ma face!! ! But disney???? It's the end of the legacy... but I don't know... when Disney does stuff like this, they usually do a really really really good job with it... oh my woah... I don't know what to say... oh my woah.. THIS IS CRAZYY!! !! !! !! !

Who still had confidence in Lucasfilms anyway after Episodes I-III?

Incidentally, the picture from the article in the OP:

Could George Lucas look any sadder than he does in that picture?

It's like even he realizes that he had gone too far in the course of cashing in on old, successful franchises rather than trying to build new ones.
One would have hoped that the sale of Lucasfilms would mark the end of such behavior, but apparently the company has nothing else of value to offer. At least the issue with Paramount will probably be able to stop them from making Kingdom of the Crystal Skull II.....

Wow I didn't expect this when I came on this forum. I don't even know how to feel. I love Star Wars, it's pratically my favorite movie franchise but I feel as if the films have come full circle after episode 3. What else can thet do? Will Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher return? What about Darth Vader? I don't possibly see him returning. If disney owns Star Wars now does that mean the disey logo will appear at the beginning of the film because a Star Wars film can't start properly without the 20th century fox fanfare followed by the Lucasfilm Ltd logo, then the A long time ago in a galaxy far far away writing, the classic theme tune and the scroll telling us whats going on. Do I want to see another Star Wars film? Honestly I really really don't know. Maybe, possibly perhaps. I would like Star Wars to be kept alive in many ways such as The Clone Wars animated series which unlike some other people I actually like or this rumoured live action tv series that suppose to take place between Episode III and Episode IV. To quote the films themselves "I've got a bad feeling about this".

I would very much like to see a trilogy based on Timothy Zahn's excellent "Thrawn" series of Star Wars novels, which take place after episode 6 and which George Lucas has referred to as "canon" in the past. On the other hand, the usual characters are in it which means most likely recasting Han, Luke and Lea et al, as I don't think the original actors can pull it off any more. And, my guess is that whatever form the films take, they won't be based on Thrawn's novels.

Apparently Han Solo's and Leia's son and daughter go on to become a sith lord and jedi knight respectively.

I want to see that story being told.

IMO, Idris Elba is far too young to play Jolee Bindo.

Morgan Freeman, now...

For doing that, you would have to do the New Jedi Order series first just to introduce the characters. The New Jedi Order/Yuuzhan Vong War actually would be best done as a HBO series (or another PPV channel series) now that I really think about it. With that to set up their background, you can easily to the rise of "Darth Solo". Both series's would actually be completely doable considering the take place like 40- 50 years AFTER the OS.

And those wondering who I meant by misha collins. He plays castiel from Supernatural but he has played much more emotive roles as well. All and all an excellent actor IMO. Now as for a voice for HK-47... I would have no idea...

Morgan Freeman is awesome, but getting pretty old. It would be much easier to make Idris Elba look older and still be able to pull of lightsaber choreography than to have Morgan Freeman do that.

Terry O'Quinn could make a good Darth Malak. Ron Perlman as Canderous Ordo. Ellen Page as Mission Vao. Tilda Swinton as Juhani.

Also the voice for HK-47 is easy. Get the same person who did it in the game.

Hey I am glad to see a new trio of Star Wars films on the horizon. I am worried that Disney is becoming too big of a company. Success is great for a company, don't get me wrong, but high levels of competition are usually the best atmosphere for great films to form.

It won't be the Thrawn trilogy. It will be between 30 and 40 years after Return of the Jedi. Take a look at the "story content" section of the Wikipedia page:

I read somewhere that it would be a continuation of Luke, Leia, and Han's stories. Boy I hope I either misread or they change their minds.
