Both Pinky and the Brain from Animaniacs. Brain is AS to the core and I'm not sure what's up with Pinky.

Bruce Wayne could possibly be PDD or he's just stoic.

David Duchovny's (spelling?) character in Evolution.

I know this probably doesn't really count, but I submit Odo, from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Given that he's an Alien, and a Changeling on top of that, it could be argued that he really doesn't count... But I've been watching alot of DS9 (slowly collecting the DVDs, have seasons 1-3 so far), and he's mannerisms, lack of social ability, need for control and order, acute sense of honor and justice, and I can't help but keenly identify with him. He's the most Asperific (to borrow a Neologism) character I've seen, more so than even Grissom or Goren.

Iorek Byrnison from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy has AS. His facial expression never changes, he doesn't bother with anyone else's points of view, he has no sense of humor or empathy, has a monotone voice, and he prefers being alone.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I've actually read some reviews which suggest Lain is autistic. While HFA and AS share a lot of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia (flat affect, withdrawn behavior, etc) autistics don't generally have hallucinations and delusions like that (unless of course you want to argue that it's all real, which is also possible).

Quite awhile ago (during my Lain obsession) I came across an article about a doctor who's name I believe was Laing, though I could be mistaken. He studied schizophrenia and was very different from the doctors of his time in that he tried to cure his patients by going through what they went through, and helping them "emerge" from their psychosis. This seemed similar to the interaction between Lain and Alice, to me.

I just found an article on Wikipedia on him. RD Laing. A lot of what it says about his views on mental illness seem to be reflected in the show. I wonder if the creator has heard of this man, due to the uncanny similiarity in the name as well as the concepts:

The only cartoon character I've felt to be AS is the boy in Charlie Brown who playes the piano with the bust of Beethoven on top.

I get a bit frustrated when aspies claim every movie character who is slightly shy or nerdy is an aspie.

Yes, just like my cat, by the same logical diagnosis, has AS.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld books came to mind when I saw the title of this topic. I'd say that Leonard Da Quirm possibly has Asperger's Syndrome.

Piccolo from DBZ= AS (sensitive hearing, keeps to himself, a little too logical)
Chichi from same= OCD (Gohan has to study 24/7 and you never see the house at all dirty)
Tsukasa from .hack//sign=AS although I think alot of that could just appear that way because hes in a very strange situation (but hes by far the best Ive ever seen at protraying AS, as he hates touch, for a while he wants to be alone, he liked staying in the world at first because it was better then the real world and just everything seemed to show that though at the end of the show when you see Tsuakasa in RL it doesnt seem that way)
Abriel and quite a few of the other Abh from Crest/Banner of the Stars= AS/HFA Abriel at least first could never get expressions and why Jinto was doing the things he was, like Piccolo there a little too logical (although I dont think an Aspie would ever do what Lady of Chaos did), and just the fact that they are more akin to living in space then on the ground sounds so AS.

Suggestions which are goofy and unfair to the books they're in:

Jonas from The Giver, as well as the Giver himself, have Synaesthesia.

Lady Amaththea from The Last Unicorn develops a dissassociative fugue which lasts until she becomes human again.

More serious ones:

Archie from both Chocolate War books has narcissistic personality disorder.

"Adam Farmer" from I Am The Cheese has PTSD, Depersonalization Disorder (likely from the PTSD), and Dissassociative Amnesia.

Naomi of Alan and Naomi has PTSD but that's blatantly obvious. Good book though, it can make you cry.

Chloe from 24... there's a biggie. Great on computers, but stumbles trying to communicate and shows very little emotion in her voice.

Jesse and James from Pokemon are definite OCD... they're so obsessed with doing their song thing whenever they appear that they blast anyone who tries to interrupt...

Dr. House maybe... he doesn't like seeing patients, but his way of thinking is very different to that of some of the other doctors he's around... and he's usually right.

Schizophrenia does not equal multiple personalities.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness characterized by a splitting of the mind, emotions, and reality. It literally means "Split Mind," but this is not in the sense of having more than one personality, it is in the sense that a person's thoughts and experiences do not necessarily match their emotional responses or what is going on in the real world around them. Schizophrenics display both "Positive" and "Negative" symptoms, positive symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, ideas of reference, etc, and negative symptoms include flattened affect, lack of emotional response, etc. (Positive refers to an added trait and negative refers to a removed trait, not to the value of such traits).

Gollum displays symptoms of Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder). The disorder itself is actually quite controversial, as many psychologists do not believe that the human mind actually represses memories to that extent, and also because most of the cases are based in the US, there are not that many cases outside of the US.
