Great, great weird movie. But the book itself is so weird that it would be literally unfilmable. The movie itself was more of a hallucinatory version of the writing of the book by William Lee (William Burroughs).

Drugstore Cowboys was pretty messed up, and has an appearance by Burroughs. My Own Private Idaho has its moments, and used the Cut-Up method invented by Burroughs and Brion Gysin.

I don't think that anyone has mentioned Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. That may have had the biggest budget of any listed so far, and certainly deserves inclusion.

Wes Anderson probably deserves a mention, as does Ken Russell.

Yes, I recall Burroughs making cameos in those films, as well as in Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, which is not only a weird flick, but I'm pretty sure was also directed by Gus Van Zandt.

So true, I didn't even think to mention it, probably because it seems a little more mainstream than say, 1989's Dr. Caligari,

Wes Anderson is great, and I like Russell's Lair of the white Worm and Altered States, but I think that's all I've seen from him. I've gotta remind myself to see those Gus Van Sant films.

I loved Altered States since I first saw it as a kid.

I plan on seeing a movie tommorow called Under The Skin, which many who have seen it have called bizarre and trippy.

Palindromes. I thought it was worth viewing since I'd enjoyed Welcome to the Dollhouse by the same director. Characters include a thirteen year old girl who wants to be a mom, a trucker who's a hitman, and a lady who makes Jesus tear cookies. Relax and enjoy the show.

Survive Style 5+ is a bizarre Japanese movie which follows a few different strange characters such as a man who thinks he's a chicken, a british hitman, a woman who won't stay dead, and a few others.

Oh my god I love Welcome to the Dollhouse. Unfortunately I can't find the right scene, but at least we can listen to the song:

I've seen most of Todd Saldonz's movies, but I haven't seen Palindromes yet.Guess I'll add it to the list. How do you feel about Daniel Clowes? He wrote Ghost World and Art School Confidential.

Will definitely check out Under The Skin.

For weird movies, I'll go to my old standby of David Lynch movies, in particular -

Blue Velvet
Eraser Head

Among others.

But Guy Madden also deserves mention, with -

The Saddest Music In The World
Brand On The Brain
Just to name a few.

Yeah, the Lost Highway is probably still one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. lol Can't even remember if I ever finished watching it, I just remember being too confused to actually enjoy the movie.

I should mention The Company Of Wolves, a surrealistic horror movie about werewolf myth. Filled with bizarre dream imagery.

Just bought a ticket to a late night screening for Jodorowksy's Dune, a documentary about the famous unmade movie. And the only day it is screening at the theater is also my birthday, which is a cool gift for me.
