Shows like "The Bachelor" "American Idol" "The Voice" "Survivor" all make me cringe, but this is the direction cable is running toward.

Blurred nudity, at that. I don't wanna have to pay $300 dollars just to see tits. And why do I have to see commercials on cable? I'm paying for it, but I still see them. Hulu Plus is the same way.

Network TV can't compete with cable in terms of quality/story because it has to appeal to a more general audience. Network shows can't risk being too edgy because they get cancelled if they don't appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Shows on network TV are trying to copy cable but the shows are still more watered down so it's not really working all that well (ratings are down significantly).

What's up, Alex? Holla at your boy!

I don't think that's exactly true. NYPD Blue showed bare buttocks and it was a hit. The tv shows in the 90s and before were racier than anything out now in that time slot. Hell, PBS used to show nudity on their channel (granted it is PBS in the 70s, but still...).

I don't watch much TV but when I do I make sure it's anime. Or Doctor Who.

I just hate how every damn channel nowadays seems to air the same sort of overly-staged "reality" drivel. I used to be able to tune into the Discovery Channel, and actually watch cool shows about science, technology, and nature. Now, it's just the same sort of crap they have on the History channel, or TLC, or A&E, or whatever. These channels all used to have compelling programming, but now none of them do. I'll admit, if I'm in the mood for something mindless I'll flip on Pawn Stars or whatever, but this "reality TV" BS is no substitute for actual informational programming. I want to watch documentaries, dammit!

My main reason was commercials, got so sick of getting 5 minutes of any show/movie and then 10-15 minutes of commercials. Also stupid 'reality' t.v and none of the music channels even have music anymore, the history channel is more reality shows or crap rather than stuff about history ect.
