What's so great about Dirty Dancing (1987)?

Oh okay thanks, those are interesting videos. Would movies like Commando and Rambo: First Blood Part II be trying to appeal to females more, since they have muscular shirtless guys in? Is that why they have it in, for the female viewers?

That's a negative, Ghost Rider.

Those films are very much aimed at teenage and young adult males. The shirtlessness there is not for female appeal, it's to provide a sort of ideal male image - "You could look like this if you were an action hero and spent 14 hours a day at the gym."

If you're looking for movies which did deliberately play up the shirtlessness of muscular men for at least a certain amount of appeal to young women (and teens), look no further than 300 (2006) or Twilight (2008), and, increasingly, more recent superhero and action movies (Aquaman and... anything with Jason Statham).

Oh okay. How is 300 more of a feminine movie aimed towards women compared to Commando or Rambo: First Blood Part II though?

It's not so much a feminine movie at its core as it leans into the oiled-up shirtlessness as a minor aspect, but does so rather more blatantly than most other movies of the era.

These days, nearly any movie with one or more muscle-bound make protagonists, particularly if it's more light-hearted, will tend to have said protagonists losing their shirts at some point. Even the major studios have realized that there's money to be made from half-naked action heroes.

Might have meant the end of any chance Adam Driver had to be taken seriously as an actor.

Well maybe I am not seeing the female gaze of the male body as that special in cinema history, because it comes off as kind of shallow, like the female character seems more interesting in the physical of the male character, and is concentrating too much on that, rather than other trates? Like in Dirty Dancing, it seems she is much more turned on by his looks, and his dirty dancing talents, more than what is on the inside of the character, at least for the first half of the movie more so?
