Ad revenue - longer videos more ad revenue. I think there is a way to just search for short ones.
Freevee has old tv shows with the ads where they belong, between scenes instead of some random place in the middle of a sentence or scene.

Personally, the only long-form videos I like on YouTube are those of old sports broadcasts from my youth (like the NBA on CBS, for one), driving videos from places I've never been (Los Angeles, for one), or old newscasts from my childhood (like WLS Eyewitness News from Chicago).

I'm not sure about YouTube videos getting longer, but I think people and their attention spans are getting shorter, for sure.

It does not happen often, but sometimes a clip will play, and then the channel creator appends the same clip to the end. In other words, the creator plays the same clip more than once just to extend the play time. I've seen a few clips where the last half of the video is just black with music playing. The music has nothing to do with the part of the video that contained content. But those are not recent. However, my son sent me a Simpson clip that played a portion of the episode, and then repeated most of what was just seen. That's what prompted me to post this.

Homer gets a full head of hair. Lenny and Carl cannot quite figure out what has changed. Mr. Burns and Smithers refer to him as that young go getter. I think it was from season two.

yep, i've been noticing that too. i never really speculated on *why* but my two cents is that a lot of people enjoy putting longer youtube videos as background noise, me included.

There seems to be a proliferation of 20-40 minute video essays that never get to the point. Not sure who exactly is watching them.

I have definitely noticed YouTube videos are getting longer and a lot of them don't need to be. I watch a lot of videos related to topics related to social media marketing and trends. A lot of the videos I used to be around 10 - 15 minutes, but I have noticed a lot of the YouTubers I follow are now making videos which are well over an hour long and they don't need to be. Sometimes they are good background noise or I will watch them over a day or two.

I watch a lot of podcasts and some are available on YouTube as videos, and those are usually over an hour long. I think it might have to do with the podcast format becoming popular so it became a thing that people like to become engrossed in something and listen to it for a long time. Or it might have nothing to do with that.

Ugh! I can't stand him.

I thought people listened to podcasts in their cars, but if they're watching them on youtube it must be around the house, not necessarily always paying attention but while doing chores or whatever. (?)

^^^ Rogan goes in circles, but sometimes he has interesting guests. He knows most of the listeners are not subscribers like me so also posts short 3-8min bite-sized clips

Want to see a video of me brushing my teeth? It's under 3 minutes.

I tend not to listen to him. Only his guests.
