Just had a thought about this "angry iranians complaining about mis-representing persians".. xerxes claimed to be a god, and persi at that time was NOT muslim, because that wasnt to appear for a long time to come.. so surely muslims should be APPLAUDING the spartans for killing a false prophet/god ?

wow, I had no idea of the controversy about the movie! I thought it was obvious that it was not a true and complete historical account, stupid me, what do I know!

I know there have been complaints made about the historical accuracy of the persians, rather missing the point that there isnt much accuracy to the spartans either. Other makings of the same film have not attracted as much flak either, so i suspect that this particular protest is a bit of bandwagon jumping. Its an attempt by certain hardliners to locate and complain about almost anything that isnt nailed down.
Some people also dont pay enough attention to detail. example.. The Immortals (real ones) were apparently usually clad in purple, with golden hoods. Very close examination of the various works of the costume department will reveal that the predominant colour for persians is actually purple, with various greens and golds. The problem is that these colours are very subtle, and do not show up as richly given how the film is made. Nevertheless, moaning the immortals are the wrong colour is pointless, because they actually arent.
Other moans: The Immortal Uber-immortal giant chap. Cant possibly be real, hollywood bollocks, because there are no giants.
Missing the fact that the actor who plays him is about 7ft tall anyway.
I even saw a complaint that there were too many black actors in the film playing persians, because persians werent black. A pretty ret*d statement from an empire that spans a thousand nations.. OF COURSE there are going to be black guys.
Also the film is variously facist propoganda, racist aryan propoganda, or an attempt to demonise islam. (Not sure how, theres no muslims in it.)
Some people will whine about anything.
