Me too... you disagree with just about everything that punks generally stand for. 8O Maybe there's hope for you yet... ;)

Just because someone likes their music, doesn't mean they agree with the lyrics. Often political artists like it when people who disagree with them listen to them, it's a chance for them to get their message across.

You shouldn't think what music someone listens to defines what sort of person they are.

True, in many circumstances - it dies hard in me I think from school, where it was generally predictable to say I would/wouldn't get on with someone based on their taste in music by generalising. However punk/alternative is more than just a fashion and had a social/political message from the start, and certain characteristics which means that punks tend to be anti-authority and liberal/left-wing. It is hard to see someone who doesn't share that worldview being into it. Having said which, when a band breaks from the underground they pick up all sorts of listeners who may or may not get the message, so you may well be right...

I think that's a complete generalisation myself.. The Ramones had a Republican member, so there are conservative punks.

That is unlikely but even for the repulicans who claim to be liberal they are still conservative when it comes to economics and so by joining the repulican he is indeed a conservative and if he happened to be liberal when it came to social issue then his favour of rich person friendly policies and or other republican policies like being pro-war has overided his 'liberal concerns'.

He is certainly anything but a genuine 'punk' as going by the political definition of that word but we all knew these groups just act like rebels for their career but they usually are just as much as part of the establishment as any other rich businessman.
