I really enjoyed Billy the Kid. Too bad it's one of those indie films that only people in certain places can see.

I've only seen Mercury Rising.
It's about a LFA 9 year old boy [Miko Hughes plays him] who cracks a governments "super code". His parents get killed because they want to steal the boy so the code isn't revealed, and then kill him. A man from the FBI named "Art" [Bruce Willis plays him] tries to protect the boy from getting killed...while at the same time tries to figure out what the code means by getting the boy to speak and tell him.

It's pretty stereotypical about autism, though. I wont say anymore incase anyone here watches it...wouldn't want to spoil the movie.

Has got to be "A Beautiful Mind". It very deftly captures John Nash's genius and struggles to fit into NT society. Nothing else I've seen has ever come close

Not specifically about autism/AS, but the movie Four Minutes is a definite inspiration for someone with Asperger's. In the movie, Roger Bannister is depicted as a very intelligent, high functioning, somewhat quirky individual who doesn't do things according to convention, prefering to train for his epic four minute mile on his own time while working toward a career in medicine. He is criticized by the British press for his unconventional training style. His fourth place finish in the Olympic 1,500 meters appears to prove Roger took the wrong path, but the rest of his life proves he did the right thing.

I've only seen Rain Man and Mercury Rising. I saw Bless the Child, but I didn't think that anybody had autism, or maybe i just forgot.

Also I would say Bjork's amazing preformance in Dancer in the Dark, and Emma Watson's in Breaking the Waves, two Lars Van Trier (sp ?) films that I think are about or at least strongly allude to autism or autistic traits arguably.

These movies are well made and very realistic, I prefer Dancer in the Dark because of the singing and the dancing scenes.

The belgian movie BenX that came out last year is also pretty good, about the life of an adolescent guy with autism (he is into WOW a lot) that is being severely bullied by some fellow students , very emotional.

The hero, Mumbles, is born with both an exceptional ability and an alienating disability,
that causes him to be shunned, ridiculed and eventually outcast from his community.
Every time I watch it, scene after scene seems to perfectly epitomise the Aspy versus NT
experience.Lack of appreciation for unique skills, demands for societal conformity, the ability to notice details and fit them into a logical but unorthodox framework, etc.
OK, its not 'a movie about autism'
but I still feel that many of the characteristics of Asperger's
are emulated quite perfectly in Mumbles.
