I have a suspicion that one of the contestants this season - David Cook - could be a bit of an Aspie and wondered if anyone else thought so. It's the way he doesn't smile when all the other contestants know the places you're "supposed" to smile (like when watching the competition sing and when Ryan is telling America the number to vote for him). And the way he tried to get the crowd on his side last week but it came off totally wrong as back-talking Simon. And he's a self-professed "word nerd." And there were other things I can't think of right now.

I don't know. I could be projecting 'cause I really really like him. As in, I like his voice's tone & inflection and his unique phrasing (hmm, different word cadence...) and the way he can make any song just plain rock. I also like him as in, he's not the most handsome guy on the show, but I find him oddly and irresistibly sexy. :sunny:

Back-talk Simon? Oh dear!

I'd like to "back-talk" Simon with a baseball bat. It would simply be paying an advance on the all the bad karma he's accumulated. Everyone associated with this AI spectacle should be taken to Dr. Phil and have their problems addressed.

I just realized that I haven't been to Wrong Planet in a long while while. It's not that I've been gotten a life or anything, it's that I have a new internet obsession - David Cook! lol. Love him, adore him, want to have his babies, all that jazz. I'm 37 going on a 16-year old fangirl. It's pretty amusing. But he is so freaking talented it's unbelievable, how could I not obsess over him?

I still think he has a little bit of Aspie tendencies. I read this story about someone who met him and how he went on a diatribe talking about something he's into (astronomy I believe) for 15 minutes to this fan, and the other Idol contestants in the room were playfully rolling their eyes, like "there he goes again!", you just gotta wait til he finishes. lol.

Anyway, I think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I bought all his pre-idol albums (his solo album "Analog Heart" is available on amazon) and all his Idol studio versions of his songs, and his voice just has so much more to it than any other Idol contestant.

Ohhhh I knowwwwwwww!! ! lol  David Cook! I don't know what it is about that man but damn! He just seems soo... awkward and sweet! He only seems cocky until you actually pay attention and then he's just so goofy and nerdy.

And if you notice, in interviews, he'll look at the person who is asking him questions, but almost always looks away when he answers. I highly doubt he's an Aspie or anything, but definitely not as "cool" as people think he thinks he his. He's adorable!! !

(God, I'm pathetic! haha)

Oh, good, a topic about Idol.... I've been watching since season 2, I'm rather attached.

This season, I'm ridiculously attached to Jason Castro. Gosh, every little thing that boy does, I fall deeper in love. I'm a lot like him in some ways, so I can totally relate to him easily.... I'm a member over at an American Idol discussion forum, and I posted a whole long explanation, practically an essay, over there about how much I seriously love this guy. Too lazy to bring it over here. But oh my gosh, I am going to be an absolute MESS when he goes home.

I absolutely hear what y'all are saying about Jason, though, he could be one of us, he and I have a lot in common. We "um like yeah" our way through most public speaking, we're oddly happy when other people aren't, we burst into awkward laughter at random times, we make weird faces, we both get kinda left out of stuff...

Yeah, I can see it....

Yeah I have seen American Idol on ITV 2 in England and it is good I personally prefer The X Factor that is like the British version of American Idol and my favourite bit is the auditions especially the really bad ones that really annoy Simon Cowell.

:D ... here come another david cook fangirl XD...

he's just great, I loved the whole writing on his hand thing for idol gives back... just adorable... and of course his voice is amazing too. i doubt he's aspie, but he's definitely awesome.

Jason Castro is my second fave, his music is so calming and mellow.

I'm kinda missing michael johns though.

I'm surprised David Cook is getting all the attention here. He is very good but he is still very derivative of what is cool right now. Something I heard in the news, his older brother was flown to the show yesterday from the hospital where he is suffering from brain tumors. That was shocking.

I think David Archuleta is incredibly original, something not all the other contestants have. On Larry King the judges said that they called him their 16 year old "savant." I think he and Brooke have a lot of emotional power and authenticity to their singing.

His smokey mountain memories was so amazing. and David blew the roof off of Mariah week:

Hey, any of you fellow David Cook fangirls ever hang out on the American Idol forums? I hang out there ALL THE TIME now - I'm a Word Nerd and I LOVE it!

ETA: I'm still so sad MJ is gone.

I don't like the official americanidol.com forums all that much....

idolforums.com is the way to go.

I don't watch it. I prefer artists who come into their own, the old-fashioned way, through gigs and trial and error. I also like music that's different from the stuff that they sing, on American Idol. I like Rock and Punk Rock, not Pop.

I am obsessed with and addicted to American Idol and Canadian Idol.
I spend hours on idolforums discussing and speculating, pretty much every day of the week.
It's actually starting to affect my life at school, so I'm trying to be less obsesses or find some new things to be obsessed with so I can spread my obsession around a bit.

David Cook does sing rock, and has been doing gigs and writing/making/performing his own awesome music for many years. Idol was just a whim his brother talked him into, and it kind of panned out. But I'm afraid Idol will ruin him... I mean, American Idol really does end up producing a lot of crap.

Yay!! I'm glad to hear people talking about Canadian Idol! I've never been to any Idol message boards, this is pretty much my first message board.

CockneyRebel, I understand what you mean and my musical tastes are usually outside the mainstream as well, but I still enjoy watching Idol - for me its like there’s nothing wrong with candy, you don't eat it all day or as your main course but its fun and sweet all that. Also its a big part of pop culture which is always fascinating to follow, as it tells a lot about culture and social trends and where its going etc... Its for a certain niche though, I know that.

DJRnold... Whoops! You're right I was not thinking when I wrote that. Eva was the last idol I was actually rooting for that’s why I remembered her foremost. What’s your favorite Canadian Idol performance??

It’s so hard to pick, I can’t really, but from our Eva Avila, or Eva le dragon:

I still don't understand how anyone can like that travesty of a show... It's because of American Idol that I can't even watch the super bowl or the world series because some idol winner completely defaces the national anthem with a 20 second riff that makes the very symbol of our freedom sound like s**t...
