in the very first episode (the pilot), after fry and bender meet in line for a suicide booth (fry thought it was a payphone), they go to a bar for a drink. Bender tells fry how he is a bending unit, and fry asks him if he's any good. Bender says in an upbeat tone "You kidding? I was a star! I could bend a girder to any angle: 30 degrees, 32 degrees, you name it!" Then after a slight pause, he says really forlornly and dejectedly "31 degrees..." Its one of my favourite Bender moments.
