I'm getting a tad obsessed with Full Metal Alchemist (having only just discovered it myself) but I would never take it as far as the scary fans. I don't see a problem with people dressing up as the characters and going to conventions and joining clubs and groups, anything like that, as long as it isn't actually the only thing in their lives, interfering with more important things, and as long as they are having fun instead of defining themselves by it. I think maybe that's the line we're looking for. You can see the difference between someone who enjoys a subject and has taken a strong interest in it and someone who thinks that the whole world can be redefined by someone's made-up comic book or sci fi show (ahem... Star Trek). I love fiction of many sorts, but at the end of the day, I know what's real and what's made up, even if I made it up myself.
