Dragonball movie(evolution)
This is a movie that appeals to absolutely bloody no one. It doesn't appeal to fans of the original series, it doesn't appeal to casual movie goers, it's for nobody.
Just like the new Star Trek movie.

Deathnote ( the manga) was very very different to the movie, extra characters, different storyline, although some of it was similar. It was still a good film in itself, although I personally prefer the manga.
I don't like the look of this new dragonball though.
I watched this online, and was absolutely disgusted at it, Goku is pretty much you're typical geeky teen, the outcast at school. In the anime Goku doesn't go to school, he lives in a small house out in the country with his granpa Gohan, who dies of old age, in the movie Piccolo kills him, I can understand changing the story a bit for dramatic reasons but they completely raped Dragonball, not only that but the guy who plays Goku looks more like an adult Gohan. He pretty much acts like him too. This movie altogether is terrible, and leaving Krillin out was just idiotic, he's Goku's best friend. And the fight scenes are pretty mediocre, the SFX are also VERY average and the actor's performances are absolutely NOTHING like the anime characters they're supposed to be portraying. It's as if the screenwrites looked it up on Wikipedia and never watched a single episode of the anime and decided to base their final draft on what is on Wiki. A Dragonball live-action movie COULD work if it was done right, yes it would be ridiculous, but Dragonball in general is a pretty ridiculous TV show altogether, you have a bloody dragon who grants wishes, a boy with a tail (he doesn't have it in the movie and yet he transoforms into an Oozaru BIG screw-up there), you have cars and motorcycles which spawn from tiny capsules, you have a green alien flying around, you have a little kid on a cloud flying around, you have people blasting energy out of their hands, you have villains who aren't human at all, the list goes on. The movie would be strange yes, but Dragonball is strange even for an anime. This movie shouldn't have been made, there probably won't be a sequel, they'll leave the series for a few years and revive it. Don't go to see this movie, it will be a waste of good money, go to tvshack.net and search it up theres a decent version of it on there, and it's FREE!! ! I have sympathy for anyone who goes to see this movie, it's a waste of the millions of dollars it took to make the damn thing!!

I watched the movie, I will say that anyone who is realy into the Dragonball series will probably be disapointed, they changed many things, and could of approved on others. The original if I remember corectly had Goku killed Gohan by turning monkey, movie changed it to Picolo. Shenron was way below my pa of what I expected, like the original for the sky to darken, lightning strike and for him to fill up the sky appearing as some god, with a booming voice, instead a general looking asian Dragon that could only snarl and looked like had to put physical effort into bringing back one life. Goku's character was not right, he was lovestruck and was trying to get close to Chichi, which they should have reversed making him oblivios and Chichi trying to get his attention. And at least could have maybe had a small reference or a cameo of the Ox King Chichi's father.
Though it was bad for being different to original, and felt rushed, it could be feel good if you looked at this instead as bringing somthing different, and not same storyline. One thing I thought was funny was how Bulma told the flirting bandit Yamcha (in original he was afraid of women initialy), that she liked bad guys, was almost obvious point that she doesnt end up with Yamcha but the even badder Vegita.
On another not I would like to also add that through a bit of looking around Hollywood has got the rights to live action Cowboy Bebop, Ninja Scrolls, Death Note and Full Metal Panic. It looks like Keanu Reeves will be playing Spike Spiegle in Cowboy Bebop, I think they coul possibly pull this off aslong as they keep true to the characters. I don't know much about Death Note except maybe it would be nice to see a different story, it would probably be set in America, but god don't just turn it into a movie just to excite girls. And from what I heard about Full Metal Panic which shocked me is that curently the actor looking to star the Japanese born, Muslim raised Sousuke Sagara is Zac Efron, But I don't see how that could fit would probably end up worse then Dragonball.

Zac Efron? I have only 3 words: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. That's what his acting record consists of. Zac Efron is NOT an actor, he's a Hollywood pretty boy who's fanbase consists of 12 year old girls. I don't know much about Full Metal Panic, but I can safely say the live-action movie is gonna suck.
I have only watched a few Dragonball episodes, and I have watched every Dragonball Z episode, but I knew right away the movie didn't capture the original at all, it was like a different story altogether, the only similarities were the characters names, the existence of the Dragonballs and the Kamehameha, everything else was just one disaster after another. And Shenron looked RIDICULOUS, he was just an overgrown lizard, Shenron is a giant being who's power is so large it makes the sky go black when he appears, and he speaks. The Shenron in the movie didn't even look realistic, the SFX were terrible in the movie. And the actor's performances were just so terrible. The overall story didn't have much of a soul to it. Dragonball has always had a certain intensity to it especially later on.
