I love Ridley Scott movies, even ones that most people seem to hate like The Counselor, but I have no interest in seeing The Martian. It looks more like a Ron Howard movie, the kind of movie that critics and audiences go nuts over when it's released but is quickly forgotten.

I somehow missed that it was a Ridley Scott movie until after I watched it.

The Lion King: A good film, visually spectacular, but not Disney's best by a long shot. They thought they could do no wrong after The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, but here their reach was beginning to exceed their grasp.

Titanic: Hugely overrated. A special effects spectacular with an utterly contrived plot, dopey dialogue, and stock characters.

Avatar: See above. Hey kids, look at all the shiny things and listen to the noise! What fun, huh? Just don't stop to think about the plot or the script. James Cameron sure didn't.

Clammy frog descends
Demon's wind, the stars answer your desire
Join the undead, that's the place you'll never leave
You wanna die... but death cannot do us apart...

The Revenant. It reminded me of Passion of the Christ, a two hour snuff film, but in this version wilderland Jesus survives in the end.
