GadgetGuru, Any comments on Mozart and the Whale [2005]?

The characters speak their inner monologues too much, and the exposition is a tad strong, but probably required to try to explain a complex subject (Autism) to an audience in a dramatic format.

Otherwise amusing and somewhat thought-provoking, and of course, Radha Mitchell is a darlin':

The scenes with Seth Green are great:

"Luke, 25, is autistic and has lived a sheltered life with his grandparents. But his world is turned upside down when his grandmother dies and he is forced to live with his dysfunctional relatives who have no patience for him or his senile grandfather, who they quickly force into a nursing home. Luke is left with his grandfather's final semi-coherent words:

"Get a job. Find a girl. Live your own life. Be a man!"

For the first time in his life, Luke has a mission. He is about to embark on a quest."

Sea Of Love

Thriller type film from 1989. In New York someone has been murdering men who placed lonely heart ads in magazines, and a woman played by Ellen Barkin is the police's number one suspect. This is the only film in which I've seen Barkin, and she does look very striking in her red leather top. Her character occasionally does a slightly odd thing with her mouth when talking to the undercover officer she's dating (Al Pacino), which I think is probably supposed to be sexy or something, but I just found it silly and irritating.

Not bad at all, very watchable, but the ending, revealing the identity of the killer, isn't especially convincing.

Currently watching 1922. Not scary but passable.

Does anyone have a good horror rec that is available on Netflix?

Dune (2021 version)

This new version only covers the first half of Frank Herbert's classic novel of the same name (for anyone who doesn't know already) as pitched by director Denis Villenuive's (spelling?) to the studio, in this case WB. The visual effects are amazing and a sight to behold. Timothy Chalemet gives a great performance as Paul Atredies (spelling?) and manages to maintain a strong on-screen presence through his performance as does Rebecca Ferguson as Paul's mom, Lady Jessica with Jason Momoa providing some unexpected comic relief.

Regardless of your familiarity with the book, this should be watched.

An American Werewolf In London.

Classic horror/comedy that still lives up to the test of time.

Alt-Right: Age Of Rage.

Very worthwhile documentary exploring the white supremacy movement trying to repackage itself as the Alt-Right in order to achieve social respectability they so crave, but hardly deserve. Their intellectual leadership are still bigots and racists, but less crude than the Neo-Nazis, KKK, or skinheads of the past, as they try to paint themselves to be an endangered minority.
