I actually have quite a few characters that I feel sorry for. Edward Scissorhands, the Phantom from The Phantom Of The Opera, Elphaba from Wicked, Fluttershy from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (a little less so now as she has been given some good development over the course of 5 seasons), and Lucy/Nyu from Elfen Lied (God help me I feel sorry for her).

Freddie from iCarly. He has such a crush on Carly & loves her so much but she never really gave him a chance except rite after he saved her life & he didn't want to date her then because he realized she only liked him because he saved her life so he thought they should wait awhile. I have a crush obsession with the actress who plays Carly(Miranda Cosgrove) & fell in love with her & know how painful unrequited love can be.

Sometimes I felt sorry for the kids on You Can't Do That On Television, even though I know it was all just acting. Getting watered and slimed, locked in dungeons, eating disgusting food served a creepy-looking guy...

Wait a minute, I started laughing while typing this. Maybe I don't really feel that bad.

Wizardmon [from Digimon]. He was a lonely traveler, finally made a friend [Tailmon], and became devoted to her just because she was kind to him, nearly drowned trying to help her, and then sacrifices his life to save her. Not only that, since he was in the human world, he becomes trapped there as a ghost and has never appeared again.

I feel sorry for Rory too.He is such a lovable character. Also Mickey from Doctor Who. They call him "Mickey the Idiot" for crying out loud!

Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi, Sakura, Xander, Camila, Leo, and Elsie [from Fire Emblem Fates]. They all go through terrible stuff, and the Nohr siblings [from Xander onward] had horrible childhoods growing up.

To clarify, I meant that Fluttershy has become a stronger character over that period.

Lockon from Gundam 00.

My favorite character in the series.

I don't want to post spoilers. But his character always gets me ridiculously emotional. I think it is some of the things he says that resonates with my soul.

Edit: It affected me so bad I got depressed and cried on and off for about two days straight. I didn't want to leave the house. Then I got over it XD

This topic intrigued me because I can't remember if I ever related to fictional characters as to feel actually sorry for them. What happens is at times I think people's judgement and feelings towards some characters are very inconsistent.

Example given.

Someone I know once told me she laughed out loud in a certain episode of a well-known series in which one of the characters claimed would rather spend his Friday night reformatting a hard drive. I can't understand why that's funny and ask her why did she laugh. Reinstalling operating systems isn't funny. She replies "he should spend his night out, that's why that's funny!". I ask her again, why people not wanting to spend their night out is funny? If they don't want to go out, they will probably engage in some task. Washing the dishes, restoring the operating system for proper use, paying taxes, playing online games, fixing broken things seem all perfectly valid activities.

Note: many people try to explain to me why they find that funny and I never laugh. Please don't try.

I'm not saying I'm totally devoid of empathy and emotions though. That would be untrue.

^That doesn't seem funny to me either. *shrug* I think I get why some people might find it funny. Since most people have next to no experience with hard drives and would rather do something else, the fact that the character would rather do something that seems so complicated would strike many people as amusing. Does that help at all?

Hi.

I think I understand why they find that funny (after so many people trying to explain to me). It's me who don't find that amusing myself.

Rick Grimes has seen some shiz... but I've been feeling sorry for whoever crosses his path for a long time too.
