Might I also recommend the Soviet war film Come and See (Иди и смотри)? That's pretty devastating.

You should see some of the Polish material I've ordered recently. I showed my Polish friends and even they were pretty taken aback. Let's hope I can penetrate it.

Seen Dekalog (and the extended versions of A Short Film About Love and A Short Film About Killing), Interrogation, the short A Night Porter's Point of View.

I've also got the all the Polish animation DVD sets released by the Polish culture ministry to watch.
