Last night we watched:

Bubba Ho-Tep [2002]
-=-"The King vs. The King of the Dead"



Low budget fun flick.

I would want to see the proposed prequel, Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires, in the unlikely event it is ever made.

I own that movie, and I can attest that it's absolutely hilarious!

Very bloody British horror film. A rural family invite their neighbors over for Christmas, unknown to them that the neighbors have become possessed by demonic beings bent on torturing and murdering them. The horror comes not just from the possessed neighbors, but also from the what the family members learn about one another and themselves. Pretty decent flick.

Last night we watched:

Titane [2021]
We watched it in French with English subtitles—which were remarkably unobtrusive because there isn't much dialog.


NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN! Even in the short trailer above they had to blur some things out...and, of course, those things, and much more, are not blurred out in the actual film. The IMDb "Parents Guide" categorizes the Sex & Nudity and the Violence & Gore in the film as "Severe", but, personally, I'd say the Violence & Gore is probably the more severe of the two...and, oddly, both are done with a lot of artistic style.

We both thought the movie was strange and confusing and good.

I'm not sure the story was completely coherent but it's hard to tell because it is confusing.

And it is compelling. It did an outstanding job of holding our attention. It did such a good job of holding our attention that I think my bride might not've looked at her phone at all! !

If you're willing to be a little confused while being very fascinated then I think I recommend this film.

Omg. I haven't thought about this movie in years. I saw its premiere in Dallas and Bruce Campbell was there to do a small intro. It was hilarious and so was Bruce Campbell.

Truly cool!

A fun flick

The Andromeda Strain [1971]

I've been trying to persuade my bride to watch this with me for some time. Last night my sales pitch included noting some of the movie's excellent credentials:
-=-- Based on a book by Michael Crichton,
-=- -+whom she quickly remembered was associated with Jurassic Park [1993].
-=-- Directed by Robert Wise.
-=- -+Whose name she did not recognize but I added he had also directed
-=- -+The Day the Earth Stood Still [1951], and while she is not a fan of 50's Science Fiction films
-=- -+she recognized the name of the film and understood it was a biggy.

I will concede the movie is more about events and less about people than you might be used to, but if you haven't seen the film my sales pitch to you also notes:
-=-- It was nominated for two Oscars, a Golden Globe, and a Hugo. _{Sigh. Won none.}
-=-- Director Robert Wise:
-=- -+- Won two Oscars for directing The Sound of Music [1965],
-=- -+- Won two Oscars for directing West Side Story [1961].

In my personal experience, The Andromeda Strain is unusual in that you can read the book and watch the movie, in either order, and still enjoy them both. Reading the book doesn't ruin the movie and watching the movie doesn't ruin the book. Both the movie and the book are good.

I rewatched Rise Of The Guardians which is my most favorite movie of all time and it was great I love it very much.

The Viking Queen (1967)

A Hammer film loosely based upon the revolt of the ancient Britons, led by Boudicca (Boadicea) against the Romans in the First Century AD. One of the studio's lesser known releases, probably because it's not a horror film, but also because it isn't generally regarded as being much good. A lot of the criticism centres around its historical inaccuracy, which is fair enough, as whoever heard of Vikings in Roman Britain, or Druids worshipping Zeus? The battle scenes are also pretty ridiculous, and some of the acting is hammy.

Nonetheless, if you just switch your brain off before watching it, it's largely pretty entertaining stuff. Stars the almost unknown Finnish actress 'Carita' as Queen Salina (Boudicca), Patrick Troughton (the second Doctor Who) and Nicola Pagett, who will be familiar to any fans of the British serial Upstairs, Downstairs .
