I agree that the film is very unexceptional, even for a 50's science fiction film. And, I dunno about the monsters...I think they're sort of silly looking. But the story is acceptable for a 50's science fiction film and yes it also has a nice tone.

It is something I can comfortably rewatch every so often because it feels good.

Too many edge of the seat, jumpy moments. It's alright and worth watching if you like all the Maze Runner films.

Last night we watched two films:

Snow Cake [2006]

My diagnosis of having an Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1 (Mild) was in 2019, when I was 64, and I am still learning about Autism so please be patient with me on this:

<=>- And that Sigourney Weaver researched her character by spending time with a high-functioning Autistic
<=+=>who in real-life cannot live independently.

I'm just unclear on how much function is required to qualify as high-functioning.



The Thin Man Goes Home [1944]

Another good film in The Thin Man (film series). Recommended...with the qualification that I recommend seeing it after seeing the four Thin Man movies that precede it in the series.

Last night we watched:

Sixth and final film in The Thin Man film series. All six are good films!

I went into this film with some trepidation because its IMDb listing said that one genre it was in was "Musical". I did not look forward to have a singing, dancing Mr. and Mrs. Thin Man. But I am relieved to say it wasn't like that at all. Much of the film was set either in clubs where bands were performing or in the presence of band-members socializing together and performing for fun so there was a significant amount of music (jazz) but the story was told with acting, not singing and dancing.

Dean Stockwell would've been ten or eleven when this movie was filmed and he did an excellent job acting. Of course, he was already a reasonably seasoned performer by this point, it was his ninth film!

True to form, my bride was cheering for their dog, "Asta".

A very good Bob Fosse film from 1979
Very powerful.

Mad God (2021)

Phil Tippett's self-proclaimed masterpiece 30 years in the making.

I found the first 28 minutes absolutely stunning and mesmerising, clearly the part that was sat in the backburner the longest.

Not to say the rest of the film is bad. The story simply loses focus, but is still entertaining enough with some bold, and visually provocative sequences and scenes.

If you're a fan of his work, or want a beautifully harrowing, dystopic slice of pathos, I'd recommend it.
