The Last Lovecraft: Relic Of Cthulhu.

Not particularly good horror/comedy in which Cthulhu will rise from the depths and destroy mankind, unless he is stopped by Lovecraft's last living relative and his nerdy friends.

Last night we watched: In A Different Key [2020]

It is a documentary on Autism. IMDb describes it like this: "A mother tracks down the first person ever diagnosed with autism to a rural Mississippi town to learn whether his life story holds promise for her own autistic son."

Autism is a Spectrum disorder and that is reflected in this documentary. Every Autistic is different but I think any Autistic is likely to see at least bits of themself reflected in this documentary. However, I don't think the documentary spent much time looking at the high and low ends of severity...but rather the great variety between them.

-1- In it we do meet the first person diagnosed with [Kanner] Autism. He seems like a really nice guy!

-2- Alex Plank appears briefly.

Did you watch this on PBS? I'm trying to find it and found it aired on PBS on December 13.

Kind of recently Godzilla vs Kong (2021). Not usually my type of movie but visually it's as good as it gets.

On 4k blu ray disc it's reference quality, visually it's either that or Blade Runner 2049 as the best looking film I've ever watched.

For full CGI movie Gantz: O is pretty sweet. It's amazing how far CGI has come since the original Toy Story back in 1995.

It was a great movie that IMO, could be viewed as a cult classic at some point. :bigsmurf:

David Harbour was terrific as Santa Claus and in some interviews, he suggested that
Charlize Theron (if a sequel does happen) be cast as Mrs. Claus.

A Christmas Carol (BBC 2019)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christm ... (TV_series)
Good and dark, but sensitive and detailed. Close to the skeleton plot of the book, but with many departures in the details that for some reason I didn't mind. No confusing flashbacks, not too many characters, well acted. Neat study of sin and the difficulty of redemption when it's gone that far.

Black Mirror series 5 episode 3:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel,_J ... Ashley_Too
Reviews were mixed but I liked it well enough. Surprisingly lightweight for anything I enjoy, not as dark as many episodes, even contained some strangely Disneyesque humour, and it forced me to reconsider my uninformed view of Miley Cyrus who I rather disliked until I saw this. But maybe I was just in a good mood.

I hope they do that.

The Mario Bava directed Black Sunday. It's from 1960, and stars Barbara Steele. She is famous for her roles in Hammer Productions movies.

The Irishman.

My Christmas present. Factually based account of Frank Sheeran, an Irish American truck driver who rose high in the ranks of the Teamsters union, and who "painted houses," a mob term meaning he made hits for the Mafia. He had first hand knowledge of the collusion between the mob and the CIA in their attempts to overthrow Castro, and ultimately claims to have betrayed and murdered his friend, Jimmy Hoffa. All this at the expense of his relationship with his daughter, which left him broken by the time of his death. Great de-aging special effects for DE Niro, Pesci, and Kittel. Does this solve the Hoffa disappearance/murder? Who knows.

Creep (2004)

Too modern a film for me, it has all the usual horrible whooshing and crashing sound effects as well as a lot of late 20th Century type characters, situations and attitudes that I struggle to understand or relate to.

It's an Anglo-German production starring an actress called Franka Potente, who finds herself in a deserted London Underground system late at night, at the mercy of a humanoid monster who seems to be a cross between an old age pensioner and an Egyptian mummy. Actually he may be a former hospital surgeon, but this is never explained or confirmed in the film. Oh well, at least it was only 82 minutes long, and I got through it with the aid of a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, lol.

Franka Potente is a highly talented German actress who proves she can still land major roles, even as she ages.
