Watch Dune (2021) with my buddy last night after the ball dropped.

Pretty well done IMHO, some of the set, setting, and camera angle intensity reminded me of a lot of the good things that Hype Williams did with Belly. There was also the whole clairvoyance thing they had to tackle and that was handled pretty well.

Mulholland Drive

It was another one of David Lynch's lower astral / collective unconscious movies, where on one level of analysis you can say that he's suggesting what he sees as cause and effect in a broader-context universe but also suggesting a bit that you probably couldn't lick enough toads to understand what the universe is doing with us.

My lucky stars 4/6

This is a Sammo Hung movie but Jackie has some cool rollerskating scenes , its not really that funny besides Richard Ng who thinks hes invicible in a scene and the lads (all ex cons) decide to prank him. They run a cleaning company , cleaning buildings etc

James Tien (Bruce Lee films) plays a gangster and the lads have by accident taking the press used to make fake dollar bills with

Ninja strikes back 4/6

Imitator Bruce Le plays an ex con who tries to leave organized crime and Ron (Hwang Jang Lee) wants him to re-join them. An ambassadors daughter is kidnapped and its up to Le to get her back. Nice Rome & Paris locations.

Only thing that bothers me is that Bolos part is short , they couldve done much more with his character. Its a bit sad when Le and Ron fight as they were good buddies prior to Le leaving crime. Decent final fight scene

The boss of the ninjas played by Harold "Oddjob" Sakata in one of his final films....this is not a ninja film , only 2 ninja scenes and its a bit hokey with them disappearing into thin air - keep in mind this is '82 movie , its very low budget but still I enjoyed it.

(the intro is also a reference to the chinese version Enter Dragon with the "animated" Bruce pics collage)

Tales of Terror (1962)

A Roger Corman film, watched on Comet TV

Three stories, Morella, The Black Cat, and The Case of M. Valdemar, all featuring Vincent Price.
I removed descriptions of the stories. Wikipedia offers a better description.
Wikipedia: Tales of Terror

I would like to add, I always seem to enjoy Peter Lorre in Roger Corman films.
In The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar, when Vincent Price's character dies, there is a creepy and chilling death rattle.
I always enjoy watching this film.

I love the IMDB description "... one day, boredom sets in and Lucie goes to see a therapist to save their marriage, while her husband goes to see Jean-Claude, their neighbour."
Priorities...LOL

The Pit and the Pendulum (1961)

Roger Corman directed this film. I watched it on Comet TV. I think it is Roger Corman day on Comet.

Wikipedia: The Pit and the Pendumlum

Luana Anders plays Catherine Medina, Vincent Price's daughter. I mention this only because she was also in Dementia 13, a Roger Corman produced film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. I did not recognize her in this, until I saw her credited on the IMDB.

I perked up when I saw Barbara Steele was in the film. I've seen her in several moody Italian horror films, and I know she has a following. In this film, her character, the deceased Elizabeth Barnard Medina, was significantly evil. She is not really dead.

Actor John Kerr plays Barbara's brother, Francis Barnard. He is a man that shows up bossy, angry, and annoying. I've felt this way for the last 50 years. I have always though Jack Nicholson's character in The Terror was annoying too because first, he is a guest and a stranger, yet he is bullying, bossy, and as I said, annoying.

Antony Carbone, who has been in several Roger Corman films, initially seems very likeable. he plays Doctor Charles Leon. A nice contrast to John Kerr's bossy character. But there is a twist, and we find out he is having an affair with Elizabeth Medina.

Luana's character is the only one that seems nice, not evil (Barbara and Antony), not annoying (John Kerr), not sad and pathetic and ultimately mad (Vincent).

I've always like the last words and the last image.

Next on Comet TV! The House on Haunted Hill. (It must be Vincent Price day, not Roger Corman.)

You probably won't guess what happens when José goes to see Jean-Claude.

The Wonder (2022) - Netflix

Wikipedia: The Wonder (film)

This is a quiet tale about a nine year old girl who is said to have not eaten anything in months, living only on the "manna of God." It takes place in 1860 Ireland. An English nurse and an Irish Catholic Nun are brought in to watch the child, to verify she is not eating. When the child starts to starve, conflicts appear in the nurse doing the job she was hired to do, and her duty as a health provider. Nearly everyone else seems to have stake in proving the girl is a miracle.

Being a Magic the Gathering player, I questioned the difference between manna and mana. FYI, this is what I found.

White Noise (2022)

A film by Noah Baumbach. I've seen a few of his films, and liked them.

This film has many moods. It starts out quirky establishing everyday life of a family. Then it gets serious when there is a train accident and fire that pumps toxic fumes into the air. Then it gets more serious, and tense when the parents of this family (Greta Gerwig and Adam Driver) both have there own existential crisis. Then it ends on a note not quite back to normal, but good enough. What's a person to do? Go to the grocery store, of course.

Don Cheadle is in the movie as well. He's funny, in a quirky way. I did not recognize Adam Driver. Greta has her hair frizzied out. Frizzied may not be a word.

The Fablemans (2022)

First movie seen in the theater in 2023, and I liked it. It was appropriately about a family whose son has aspirations to be a filmmaker. The acting was very good. I recently saw a film where there was a moment where I thought "that's the kind of acting I'd get if I directed a film." I looks like people acting in a film. Good acting, in my opinion, is when they look like characters in a film. Can't remember what that other film was, but I'm pretty sure I posted it here.*

There is a camera composition joke at the end of the film I really liked. It was a fun little camera movement.

Directed by Steven Spellberg. Music by John Williams.

* The film I could not remember was probably a Roger Corman film.
