Grand Budapest Hotel

TBH - I really don't know what I made of it. Cute, a lot of oblique dry humor, reminds me I need to check out László Krasznahorkai's movies.

Great film, great acting, just couldn't deal.

Way too scary for me -- which is a credit to the film.

Most horror movies don't scare me at all.

Thanks for the recommendation Recidivist.

Wow that must have been a really scary film.

I went to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. which is my favorite set of characters in the MCU. While the movie had lots of laughs, great lines, and excellent characters. Not only was it darker but this one tugs at your emotions in a lot of ways.
Additionally, I thought that the villain, High Evolutionary was very well written. Also, I thought the actor who played him seemed really talented as well.

Shazam: Fury Of The Gods.

Basically mental popcorn like the original. Lots of fun, with sappy sentimentality.

John Wick Chapter 4

&

Sisu

Sisu is a unique Finnish concept. It is a Finnish term that can be roughly translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. Sisu is not momentary courage, but the ability to sustain that courage. It is a word that cannot be fully translated.

The Beauty Jungle (1964)

A film about beauty contests which is somewhat one dimensional and goes on a bit too long. Still, it's not without interest and depicts a Britain very different from today's country (one I'd rather be living in, LOL). Quite a decent cast as well.

Last night I watched:

Warriors of the Wasteland [1983]
<=>"Can mankind survive without humanity?"

Sort of a shallow/low-budget/Mad-Max/spaghetti-western kind of vibe.

Unless that sounds good to you: skip it Not Recommended skip it

Quote:
We are the Templars. The warriors of vengeance. We are the Templars. The high priests of death. We have been chosen to make others pay for the crime of being alive. We guarantee that all humanity, accomplices and heirs of the nuclear holocaust, will be wiped out once and for all. That the seed of Man will be canceled forever from the face of the earth!

Psychological horror does my head in.
I'm more afraid of humans than any type of monster or ghost.

I'm going to try it again though.
I need to know it has a happy ending, assuming it does in some way.

The Autopsy Of Jane Doe.

A naked body of an unidentified woman is examined by a father/son coroner team after hours, when it becomes apparent to them that they are in grave danger from the body. First rate horror movie.

Mary Shelly.

Biopic on the author of Frankenstein, and how her own personal tragedies involving her lover, Percy Shelly, and that of her half sister, Claire and her ill fated romance with Lord Byron, had inspired her sympathetic view of the monster in her book. The character of Dr. Polidoris, who had been shown in a negative light in other bio movies on the subject, is surprisingly portrayed as sympathetic.
Enjoyable movie, maybe not as good as Gothic , but certainly better than Haunted Summer.

Last night I watched:

Son of Dracula [1943]
<=>"Chill and Thrill to Dracula's Curse!"

It was OK, I guess, but I didn't think Lon Chaney Jr. was vampirish enough.

I guess I still expect him to be the wolf man.

Depraved.

A horribly disfigured man awakens in a makeshift lab, where he's told by a doctor caring for him that he's gone through severe trauma, and must relearn everything. He eventually discovers that he's been constructed from the bodies of murder victims in a horrific experiment. Great modern retelling of Frankenstein.
