The Witch: Subversion (2018)

This is the first film in The Witch series.
I've got to say, the bad guys really relish being cold blooded murders.
I enjoyed this film.

I have watched this many times before. It is scary, gory, and not very easy to watch.

However, this film is only ninety minutes and worth your time.

Previously I would've thought they were unrealistically optimistic about what AIs can do but ChatGPT makes me not so sure. I still think they are unrealistically optimistic about price...surely there's no way the things could cost less than a Tesla...maybe less than a Lamborghini, though????????

P.S. Despite what you see in the trailer, M3GAN does not go scampering around on all fours through the entire movie. What is shown in the trailer is about all of that there is in the movie.

The Rendlesham UFO Incident (2014)


aka 'Hangar 10'


For those who don't know, the 'Rendlesham Forest Incident' from 1980 is the UK's nearest equivalent to the Roswell Incident of 1948. The film in fact deals with events which supposedly happened in the same location around 30 years later.

It's a so-called 'found footage film' (a term I'd never heard) in the style of The Blair Witch Project. Like the latter production, it's pretty confusing, incomprehensible even, and not very good, though the last few minutes are visually impressive.

About 80% of IMDB reviewers rate this film as complete rubbish, but a significant minority seem to think it's a classic of its genre.

Fun movie but the big takeaway for me was: Gee, Hugo Weaving has a broad wide acting range!

RiffTrax Live: Manos - The Hands of Fate (2012)
2012! Wow. Seems like yesterday, or five years ago, but 11 years!

MST3K and Rifftrax makes Manos so enjoyable.

RiffTrax: Yesterday's Target (2019)
The actual film was made in 1996.

It star Daniel Baldwin, and they have a lot of fun with him being one of the four Baldwin brothers. He is second oldest. There is Alec (1958), Daniel (1960), William (1963) and Stephen (1966).

Rifftrax's streaming site has a Random button, and I love the random button. Otherwise, I would always pick the same handful of films, and never one of their shorts.

Time to get back to the Korean drama's on Netflix.

The Bliss of Mrs. Blossom [1968]
<=>"The most titillating comedy of the year"

Harriet Blossom (Shirley MacLaine) has a husband, Robert Blossom (Richard Attenborough), who runs a brassiere company—and she has a boyfriend (James Booth) in the attic. Good natured gentle 60s comedy...with a lot of bras.

Pleasant movie.

Renfield.

Horror/comedy, in which Count Dracula's servant must take responsibility for his actions serving Dracula over the last century, and become his own person. Plenty of gore and gratuitous violence! Not the best movie ever, but plenty fun.
Maybe the best parts are recreations of scenes from the original Dracula movie of the late, great Bela Lugosi and Dwight Frye.

Midnighters.

A struggling couple are returning home from a New Year's Eve party, when they accidentally run into a man in the woods. Because they had been drinking, they try to cover up the accident, when they discover the man had been looking for their address. Things can only get worse when they lie to the police, then discover that the dead man had been trying to hunt down and kill the wife's sister. Great psychological crime drama, in which no one can trust anyone else, especially when a sinister character posing as a police detective makes an entrance.

Who Saw Her Die? (1972)

This is one of those Italian 'Giallo' murder mysteries. I've seen quite a few of these and have found most of them pretty interesting and watchable, but this is a bit of a clunker. It's set in Venice, and has superficial resemblances to the Nicholas Roeg film 'Don't Look Now', but it's nowhere near as good.

An artist played by George 'James Bond' Lazenby investigates the brutal murder of his daughter, and the final denouement was not that big a surprise quite honestly, despite the obligatory red herrings. I thought the overpowering music score was annoying as well, despite the fact that it was composed by the highly regarded Ennio Morricone.

Coming of Age story of a movie geek from small town USA

Enthralled at age 8 after seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey he becomes amateur director in his backyard and becomes well before its release the first fan of Star Wars. The adventures and misadventures of his trying to meet Hollywood directors and be the first one in town to see Star Wars and how his “special interest” affects negatively and positively his relationships with friends and girls.



As I am not a film geek nor anything more than a casual fan of Star Wars so I am sure I missed a lot of references and emotions. But I do get a kick out of watching movies set in a time I remember. They provide for me moments of nostalgia, cringe, and “I forgot about that”. 5-25-77 sure provided that. I was entertained.

The Piano Lesson (1995). It's a Hallmark movie-but pretty good, about a haunted heirloom piano in 1930s Pittsburgh, PA.
