The Midnight Man.

A nurse, caring for her wealthy but mentally addled grandmother, and her two friends find a game in the mansion's attic, which they play at midnight to bring a supposed bogeyman called the Midnight Man. Unknown to them, the game is very real, and the grandmother has a horrific connection to the game.
Decent enough horror movie.

I watched a movie called 10x10 this morning. It was OK I suppose but I'd only give it a 4.

Bodies, Bodies, Bodies from 2022. Distributed by A24. Available on Showtime and varied streaming services.

Group of 20 somethings get away to mansion for a hurricane party and things go wrong.

Characters were of varied race, sexual orientations, and had mental illnesses. The word ableist was used. I could not tell if the flick was meant to make fun of “woke” Gen Z or the director a Dutch women making her English language debut or put these elements/stereotypes in to appeal to a Gen Z audience or what she thinks that would appeal to that demographic.

Horrible bosses.
Fun in places.

65 (2023)

Adam Driver is flying a ship with passengers. Stuff happens. (don't want to spoil it. could it be Dr. Smith? - no) The ship crashes on a planet, and the planet is, and it clearly tells us, Earth, 65 million years ago. There is one other survivor, a young girl and they don't speak the same language. Either they somehow escape earth and it's inhabitants, or they are some how the start of the human race, or is it a film like Melancholia and everyone dies. Here is a spoiler

I'm torn. It was not a bad film, yet I had problems getting invested in the characters and story. The script was plot wise, well thought out. I am pretty sure it was me. It was too early in the morning (5am) and my brain was not focused enough, yet focused enough to spot plot devices so I could predict (correctly) what was going to happen later on. But those plot devices were introduced in a very nice way. My brain was just being a pr**k.

Watched on Netflix. I think the theater would have been better.

Count Dracula's Great Love (1973)

This was an "interesting" movie. It starred the Spanish horror film actor Paul Naschy, someone I was just thinking about last night. Throughout his career, he starred, sometimes wrote and directed, mostly horror movies. He has appears in 12 werewolf films, I think more than any other actor. He has also portrayed nearly every other type of character found in horror/fantasy dramas.

I think this is the only film where he portrayed Dracula. Did I enjoy it? Not sure. I did find it interesting, but not in a thought provoking way.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Nicolas Cage is struggling with his career after being passed over for several major film roles and is constantly pestered and tormented by "Nicky", who appears to him as his younger (and more successful) self. His relationship with his ex-wife Olivia and daughter Addy is also shaky. So he accepts an offer to go to Majorca to meet billionaire playboy Javi Gutierrez and to be the guest of honor at his birthday. When he meets Javi, they decide to create an improvisational movie based on a script Javi wrote but are confronted by CIA agents who suspect Javi has kidnapped the daughter of a local politician...

I don't usually like Nick Cage but it was a really fun film. It also had Pedro Pascal, Sharon Horgan and Tiffany Haddish, so they more than made up for Cage, who was actually quite funny. Especially as there is a scene where Nick snogs himself!

A worthy successor to Fantasia. And apparently a lot of celebrities agree with that assessment because there were a number of guest appearances.

I hope the next Fanatasia sequel doesn't wait another fifty-some years to show up.
