My bride wanted some comedy last night, I offered a list of candidates from our collection, and list night we watched:

The World's End [2013]
<=>"One Night. Six Friends. Twelve Pubs. Total Annihilation."

It is fun! Robots? R E C O M M E N D E D Robots?

I'm watching "It", by Stephen King.

I like the era but have no idea what it's about.

I'm zoned out.

The Venture Brothers: Radiant Is The Blood Of The Baboon Heart.

Animate Adult Swim movie attempting to tie up the series' loose ends with a grand conclusion. Beginning where the series had ended, with Brock Samson trying to locate Hank Venture after he had disappeared wearing his Batman Halloween mask, the brothers try to learn who their mother really is (the conclusion isn't expected). Also revealed is the true relationship of Dr. Venture and his arch enemy, the Monarch, in which they learn they are much more than just brothers. Utterly hilarious!

It's pretty intense.

The Duellists - an excellent movie, based on a Joseph Conrad story.

The movie is excellent. I highly recommend it.

Which version? The one made in the 1990s or the two-part version that was released several years ago?

Feral.

IFC horror movie, in which college kids go on a hiking trip, when they run into a carnivorous humanoid creature. Soon, they discover the creature is a zombie created by a virus, and that those of their group that have been attacked are doomed to turn. Decent enough movie.

Emily the Criminal. A brilliant film which I believe should have gotten awards. Perhaps it didn't because some people had "ethical" issues with it.

Year is better. The 1990's version was also a two-part mini series.
Or... did It have Tim Curry in It?

Murder, She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery (2016)

Ten minutes into this I thought to myself, "Here is a room with six women in it and four of those women are blondes. From the clothing, décor, and dialog this feels like a Hallmark film."
I was right.

It is a friendly, no threat to white middle class movie about murder. It is a very clean murder. The bullet wound is a tiny hole in the back, with the very tiniest hint of blood, and a tiny little spot of blood on the floor. Seriously, there is nothing inherently wrong with this kind of film. People just need to remember that it is a pleasant fantasy. I selected it psuedo-randomly. The title is an obvious nod to Murder, She Wrote, which was also escapist, although without the Hallmark touch.

This movie is part of an on going mystery series about a baker named Hanna Swensen. If you like Hallmark mysteries, and you are not too cynical, I would recommend it. As far as cynicism goes, I'm on the fence. It is well made and you don't have to think too much. I'm going to try to find the other films in the series. Although, I'm not renting them. They are "not must" watch movies.

The Hanna Swensen mystery series in order.

Murder, She Baked: A Chocolate Chip Cookie Mystery (2015)
Murder, She Baked: A Plum Pudding Mystery (2015)
Murder, She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery (2016) <-- just watched, on Peacock
Murder, She Baked: A Deadly Recipe (2016) <-- watching now, on Peacock
Murder, She Baked: Just Desserts (2017)
Sweet Revenge: A Hannah Swensen Mystery (2021)
Carrot Cake Murder: A Hannah Swensen Mystery (2023)
A Zest for Death: A Hannah Swensen Mystery (2023)

Don't Worry Darling (2022)

IMDB Description wrote:
While her husband leaves home everyday to work in a top secret facility, a young 1950s housewife begins to question her life when she notices strange behavior from the other wives in the neighborhood.

Excellent movie.
It was not difficult to figure out what was going on in this perfect 1950s setting. But the journey through the story was very good, the acting was excellent, and it kept my attention.

I really like the very end of the film and how the ending was revealed to the viewer. Very creative.

Note: comment about the Murder, She Baked series. I watched one more in the series, and could not wait for it to end.
They are so sanitized. There is nothing wrong with that. It is probably very reassuring for the mental health of some people.

Will there ever be a Hallmark movie that holds my attention? Answer: Yes, once it is riffed by RiffTrax.
