That was one of the best movies in the last 20 years imho. That and "There Will Be Blood", which also came out in 2007.

"the music man" - a marvelously witty adaptation of the stage play. :)

I'm up to the third of the matrix "trilogy" for a bit of fresh perspective and leading to the 4th.

I'm excited to see the Fourth one soon! I find it very comforting that they are putting some spin onto the whole idea used for the "trilogy", going by the trailers. :-)

Double Indemnity

This 1944 film is the only one in my 'Film Noir' box set so far that I've found to be genuinely top class, though Out Of The Past wasn't at all bad. Barbara Stanwyck stars as a woman in an unhappy marriage who conspires with dodgy insurance salesman Fred McMurray to murder her husband and claim a huge payout for his death. They're thwarted largely by the efforts of McMurray's work colleague, played by Edward G Robinson.

Unlike the Noirs I've seen so far, the plot is refreshingly straightforward, at least until the final ten minutes or so, when I was struggling a bit to keep up. The dialogue is also excellent, as is the cinematography. I'd only come across Stanwyck before as the fifty-something star of a 1966 Western serial called 'The Big Valley', and was astonished at how attractive she had been in her prime.

9/10

LOL, one thing that was amusing about the above film was the way one of the characters (McMurray's insurance man) provided a voice over narrative (which I think is a feature of several Films Noirs). Couldn't help recalling this advert for Tic Tac mints, which was made for British TV in the mid-1970s.

The Day Mars Invaded Earth

A fun indie sci-fi B film released by 20th Century Fox in 1964.

If you do watch this, you should be entertained enough for a little over one hour.
(Yes, this film was very short!)

Fox did not renew the copyright for this film, so you can find this film easily on You-Tube.

I'm a fan of radio raconteur Jean Shepard. But i never really cared for that movie. It's his biggest commercial success. (Yeah i like ephemeral obscure things.)

I love this movie, and find Barbara Stanwyck more beautiful than any other actress. I really love her in The Lady Eve.
