Rum Diaries - it was entertaining, fun to watch, just that when Hollywood tries to wax philosophical its part hit, part miss, and this miss is typically just painfully first stage thought.

Dragon Tattoo Trilogy (Swedish Version) Extended Edition, Part 2 - I couldn't remember which parts were in the regular version and which parts weren't. Lots of Lisbeth in it though, so no complaining on my part. My favorite parts were when Lisbeth finally held Blomkvist's hand after a spoiler happened, and when Lisbeth was visiting her mom in the mental hospital (I actually cried a little during that part). Can't wait to watch part 3 tomorrow!

Okay, saw quite a few yesterday:

-Battle Royale (2000)
This was the extended version which came out recently. I took a rare gamble on buying this one without seeing it before (which I almost never do), but it actually paid off. The action was good and the conflicts between characters help make the story more three-diminsional than regular action films. Even though many have claimed recently that Hunger Games stole from this movie, I have to disagree. Sure there are simularities in the plots, but the routes they take are entirely different.

-The Tilman Story (2010)
Basically just another documentary criticizing US policies during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I have no disrespect for the Tilmans (quite the opposite since I live in AZ), but there were some things beyond their control that they couldn't change unfortunately and they had trouble coming to terms with them. But that's just my opinion.

-The Long, Long Trailer (1953)
A comedy with "I Love Lucy" stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz playing a newlywed couple who buy an oversized trailer home for their honeymoon. As you'd expect, hijinks ensue. Not a bad movie, but it was difficult trying to view this film as something on its own. To me, it felt like a 93 minute "Lucy" episode that was in color.

This is one hell of an action movie with some very funny lines, and of course,
Jason Statham is badass as always.

Ah ok. There was another movie called Safe House. I got the two confused.

I also did see Safe House when it first opened. This is a really good action movie too.

Most recently: Little Children, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Carnage.

They were all really good.

I actually thought about watching all 22 Bonds before November.

I only know one or two from the 80s. I have never seen one with Sean Connery. Or Pierce Brosnan.

-The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)
I wasn't too impressed with this one. I have nothing against foreign films, but if they can't grab and hold my interest within the first 10 minutes or have a very interesting plot summary, I pretty much just lose interest in it. I know they tried in this one, but nothing about a young Che going on a road trip across South America sounds interesting to me.

(if you're wondering why I even watched it in the first place, it was because it won an Oscar)

terminator again yesterday.
Still haven't seen avengers but I should be going next week, or to see Marley with Mum as she likes Bob and I'd like to do something nice for her if she's feeling well enough.

-Mutiny On The Bounty (1964)
When compared to the classic 1935 version, it certainly looked better with the bigger budget and the color. However, that doesn't necessarily make it the better film. I thought it dragged on way too long (3 and half hours) and I prefered the Charles Laughton and Clark Gable combination as Bligh and Christian instead of Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando. This film had to switch directors midway through the film due to Brando being Brando and that's rarely a good sign.

-The Guard (2011)
Not too shabby of a film. Definitely a dialog-heavy film which features a lot of English/Irish humor in it, but the film stays afloat thanks to the relationship between the Irish cop (Brendan Gleason) and the American FBI agent (Don Cheadle). As long as there's plenty to keep the audience entertained, it's hard to screw up a buddy cop film.

Cry-Baby (1990) - One of my favorite Johnny Depp movies that wasn't directed by Tim Burton. It's a light-hearted, cheesy, campy fun movie that functions as a parody of romantic movies set in 1950s America, most notably Grease. I watched this with my mom and she said of the Drapes (the greasers) - "At least they have more fun than the other characters and don't care what anyone else thinks of them". In that respect, I think I could learn a thing or two from them.

One of my favorite aspects of the movie was the fact that the title character (played by Johnny Depp) was kind and chivalrous despite being a greaser, and that the characters who were outwardly more clean-cut and seemingly wholesome (referred to as Squares in the movie) were the cruel ones. In that respect, it reminded me of a Tim Burton movie.

In fact, this movie came out the same year that Edward Scissorhands, Burton and Depp's first collaboration, did. Both movies are credited with Johnny Depp's turning point from being a teenage heartthrob to being typecast into the eccentric outcast roles he is best known for today.

Watching Johnny Depp play a '50s character has made me want to watch Ed Wood again, so I will probably do that later tonight.
