-Godzilla 2000 (1999)
This film was basically the franchise's "mulligan" for the God-awful Roland Emmerich version the previous year. Thankfully, this was much more what you'd expect out of a Godzilla film. Guy in rubber lizard suit wrecks a miniature city and fights a big monster. If the formula isn't broke, don't fix it. One thing of note was that I thought the monster effects were much more detailed than in previous Godzilla films, but maybe that's because it's a newer film.

-THE AVENGERS (2012)
Unless you follow the New York film critics, basically every major reviewer has already said everything that is awesome about this film. Back when I heard Joss Whedon got the directing job, all my worries about the film vanished. I'm pleased to say that my faith in him was rewarded and it's awesome to see him finally land a high-profile directing job that'll lead to bigger and better things for him. VERY satisfying payoff to the Marvel films over the past few years.

-South Pacific (1958)
I'm not really a fan of the Rogers and Hammerstein musicals (except for Sound Of Music), so the film already had one strike going in. I thought the cinematography was good and like the use of color in the film, but I thought the pacing in the story wasn't consistent and the story arcs weren't interesting or balanced enough. As for the songs, nowhere near as memorable as the MGM-Freed era musicals which is commonplace for me among the R&H films (again, excluding Sound Of Music).

-Barabbas (1961)
Surprisingly not too bad of a biblical epic. Anthony Quinn did a good job as the titular character and the premise was interesting and somewhat original (despite being based on a book). A tad on the long side, but it kept my interest since there wasn't any biblical record as to what happens (unlike other biblical epics like King Of Kings or Greatest Story Ever Told).

-The Enforcer (1976)
The third film in the Dirty Harry series. It certainly reflects the pessimism of the series and most films of the early and mid-70s, but Eastwood's handling of the character keeps these films interesting. Had some great chase scenes and good character development of the roles that weren't previously established, but even Harry has some fresh developments with the character.

-The Gauntlet (1977)
Another Eastwood cop film, only he directs this one as well. Personally, it was pretty cool seeing 1970s Phoenix as part of the film's setting. The story is pretty basic: a lowlife cop is sent to Vegas to deliver a trial witness only to find out that everyone between points A and B want them dead. The witness (played by Sondra Locke) wasn't too bad given that it's a tall order to hold your own alongside Eastwood onscreen.

The Last Temptation Of Christ.
Overall a decent movie, emphasizing Christ's dual nature - but especially his human side. Though much maligned by the religious right years ago, the film's spirit I think is keeping with the Gospels.
The person who got defamed by the movie wasn't Jesus, but the Apostle Paul.

Disturbed a movie about a serial killer who hates women because he was molested and raped by his mother. His name was Charles Mason kinda like Charles Manson

On Friday night I watched The Diary of Preston Plummer. The actors were good, the movie was not good. (In my opinion anyway) I watched Black Swan again today with my friend. I love that movie.

 You guys and your masturbation scenes. Wait a sec. I'M a guy!
(Seriously though, Black Swan was an awesome film)

BACK ON TOPIC
-Capturing The Friedmans (2003)
This documentary mainly consisted of the home video footage of an average white-bread American family whose father and son both hold a dark secret: pedophilia. Once the law catches wind of their activities, the family's wholesome image is destroyed. Not a bad documentary, but nothing really special about it so long as you can't relate to it (which I can't).

-Flight Of The Phoenix (1965)
The film which the 2004 remake of the same name was based. James Stewart plays a pilot whose plane and its passengers crash in the middle of the desert. Basically, they have to figure a way out of the desert before their water and supplies run out. I haven't seen the remake, so I can't make a comparision. But I thought it wasn't too bad of a film even though you knew the chances of them all biting the dust was pretty remote.

-Return To Oz (1985)
The Disney-made sequel to the 1939 classic, but has a far different tone than the first film. The film is considerably more dark with more sinister obstacles standing in Dorothy's way. The visuals were pretty good for the time and I felt the grim mood actually made for a pretty interesting story. Still can't touch the original, but it really can stand as its own film since everyone's familiar with the story.

-Eyes Without A Face (1960)
This was a French horror film about a doctor who arranges to kidnap beautiful young women so he can surgically remove their faces. He does this with the hopes that he will be able to restore his daughter's own face, which has been horribly disfigured beyond recognition. Not a bad premise and a pretty good film if you're into old foreign horror films. Extra points for them not actually showing the daughter's injured face in order to play with the viewer's imagination.

I rented a copy of Cowboys & Aliens and watched it with my sister and my mom.

They loved it and want to see a sequel made.
Daniel Craig is now one of my mom's new imaginary BFs.

Secret Window - I remember catching the ending of this movie on TV awhile back, and I bought the DVD for my Johnny Depp collection. Tonight was the first time I had seen the movie in its entirety, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I really like Depp's character, Mort Rainey. He's more or less my current favorite Depp character that didn't have Tim Burton's influence. I think it's because he reminds me of myself in a few ways.

I watched The Waterboy last night. Pretty funny.

It was kinda like watching Happy Gilmore in a parallel universe or something, like it was all topsy turvy.

I just got finished watching Drive on DVD, again. I've decided that this movie is now one of my all time favorites - and just maybe my number one favorite.
