Just finished watching Escape from the Planet of the Apes (I watched Beneath the Planet of the Apes the other day).

The ending is enough to make me cry. Not often a film will do that, but Cornelius and Zira were such a lovely couple, and having known them from the first movie up until the third just makes it even more heartwrenching. Just everything about that ending is so saddening. :( It may seem odd but I genuinely see them as friends.

That's not odd at all - I consider many movie characters to be my friends. I even go so far as to talk to them when I'm alone at night.

Today we rented Carolinus; Shakespeare's tragedy set in the Roman Republic, now moved into modern times. Starring Ralph Feines and Gerard Butler. Very decent movie.

I watched Battle for the Planet of the Apes earlier.
Last night I watched Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

Battle was better than Conquest, although both were very good. Later I'll watch Behind the Planet of the Apes, a companion documentary DVD that came with my films.

I'll watch Rise tomorrow to finish it all off.

If a month and a half ago counts as recently, the best movie I've seen this year was "The Cabin in the Woods." Had me laughing hysterically almost the whole time.

"Summer with Monika" by Ingmar Bergman. It's a "young love goes sour" plot but the performances are very good. Many of the reasons why Monika is so appealing at first are the same reasons why she turns out to be less appealing later.

I've only watched rise of the planet of the apes once, wasn't too bad... I've got all the planet of the apes somewheres.....

I watched Underworld : awakening last night..... Twas ok sorta. Nice to watch, easy on the eyes with the special effects and it's in a universe already explored by previous movies in the series so it was familiar concepts.... just it seemed a little incomplete.

Now i have a few to choose from..... I wanna catch up on the new james bond movies with daniel craig (yes i am aware he's been in them for years now, just sometimes you blink and years jump by and NO im not that big a 007 fan, just im at the point where i've watched EVERYTHING, im moving onto some stuff i never would have originally liked) so i got hold of casino royale and quantum of solace, then i have chronicle, hugo and warhorse to choose from for tonight :).

"Forrest Gump" it's quite a good film. Though Forrest as a little deep for someone with an IQ of 75.

The Rum Diary - While not too long ago I had gone into Dark Shadows with high expectations and came away relatively disappointed, the opposite happened with Rum Diary - I went in with low expectations and came away with a new movie to add to my list of favorites. There's a quote on the cover of the DVD where a reviewer had said, "This is the most fun I've had watching Depp in years." I agree with that. Paul Kemp is a really likable character - he reminded me a little of Julia Hoffman (my favorite character) from Dark Shadows, although she lost her temper once during the movie while Kemp always kept his cool (except when he took drugs, but everybody loses their cool when they do that  )

Pretty much the only thing I disliked was the very end, when Paul is riding on the boat and the words come up on the screen informing us that SPOILERS he made it to New York, married Chenault and became a really famous journalist /SPOILERS It felt kind of tacked-on, though maybe that's how Hunter S. Thompson's original book ended and they were being true to it. I don't know because I haven't read it. I personally would have liked the ending to be a bit more ambiguous, with the screen fading to black as we see Paul's boat drifting into the sunset.

But other than that, I thought it was an excellent movie. :)
