I have mixed feeling about it. On one hand, it's a great war movie, but on the other, I feel it's too pro-Confederacy. One thing that's absolutely ahistorical is when Stonewall Jackson tells a slave he's praying with that he and the other generals would end slavery in the south after the war. That is totally fiction.

Saw J. Edgar and Contagion this weekend. J Edgar was slow moving but fairly accurate. Contagion was very accurate and really depressing.

Sleepy Hollow

I've seen it many times before because I enjoy the spooky, moody atmosphere of it (that's why I usually watch it around Halloween time), but I have a very hard time connecting with the characters because their beliefs are so contradictory to my own - I'm Catholic, the main character Ichabod is an atheist and a couple of other characters are Pagan. Though those terms aren't explicitly used to describe them, it's made obvious by their actions and certain pieces of dialogue - and even certain imagery, if you pay close attention. Or it could just be me being paranoid/over-analyzing it, which is just as likely, since my mental health has been slightly off-kilter as of late.

^^^ thanks for posting that. i just finished watching Caramel. this is the third time i have watched it and everytime it has been good. it's on sbs now but i watched it on youtube because i dont know how to use the tv and i hate the subtitles(it's in lebanese arabic because it's a lebanese film) anyway. lili is still the funniest character and rima is still as hot as i thought she was years ago. it's making me home sick.

We just rented Get The Gringo. It's sad that Mel Gibson had to shoot himself in the foot career wise by revealing how out of his mind he is, because this movie otherwise would have attracted the box office attention it deserves. Regardless of what you think of Gibson and his addled mental state, as well as his insane political and religious views, this movie is still worth seeing.

Stephen King book made into a movie. Directed by the same guy who directed The Shawshank Redemption.

Dead Man

An excellent Johnny Depp movie. William Blake has got to be one of the most believable characters that Depp has ever played. His gradual transformation from meek and socially awkward accountant to badass, snarky gunslinger was amazing. The supporting cast was really great too - full of eccentric, funny characters. The dialogue was one of my favorite parts. I wish I had enough memory in my brain to memorize all the lines, they were that good.

If I had one complaint about the movie, it would be that the pacing is a lot slower than what I'm used to. In fact, when I first tried to watch this movie 2 years ago, I dismissed it as "boring" because the first 20 minutes didn't have a lot going on in them. So this movie isn't easy to watch if you have a hard time sitting still. But boy am I glad that I gave this movie a second chance, because I wound up being rewarded with a great cinematic treat.
