I'd like to see Rebuild of Evangelion too, but I want to wait until all of the movies come to the states in a complete box.

1: Serial Experiment Lain, Hiabane Renmei, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ergo Proxy, Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei, and Paranoia Agent.

2: I prefer the subs cause alot is lost in the translation.

3: Eve no Jikan (Time of Eve), Pale Cocoon, and Aquatic Language. I think their all done by the same group, their shorts (sorta) and absolutely fascinating. Never really heard anyone talk about them.

Eve no Jikan is actually quite popular among certain circles that have seen it. It is quite the mini series, with excelent graphics and a quite appealing theme, many are hoping there will be a proper series out of it.

I might also mention a couple of the series curently being released released that have cought my eye. Sasameki Koto is an interesting series of yuri themes, though can appeal to anyone as a good romance. And Seitokai no Ichizon is a fun series playing on cliche's, some parody and some and possibly self sacraficing pretend pervert.

1. What are your favorite anime series?

Death Note, Gravitation, X/1999, Loveless, Inuyasha

2. Do you prefer subs or dubs?
I really don't have a preference to be honest.

3. What anime series do you think are underrated?
Anime is one of my obsessions so I may have a slight bias here.

Don't worry about being biased. This tread was made so that anime fans of all different types could express their own opinions. The one thing everyone has in common is that we're all different.

1. What are your favorite anime series?

Whew...let me see...Evangelion, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Kiddy Grade, GunSword, Kodomo no Jikan, Hayate the Combat Butler, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha.

2. Do you prefer subs or dubs?

Depends. Some dub is excellent but some sucks. The dub of MGLN made my ears bleed but the Haruhi one was fairly good.

3. What anime series do you think are underrated?

Hrm...this is a bit of a toughie. Witchblade is fairly under-rated and I truthfully enjoyed it. Really sad ending :(

Hey Gifted-Monster, you liked Kodomo no Jikan, most get scared off by the loli themes or may not admit that they liked it. It is about it is about a girl who falls in love with her teacher, and acts very forcefull about her advances, he desperatly fends her off while trying to cope with being a fresh teacher, and everyone deals with issues not often shown in media. I quite liked it, and I think it is a bit underrated, lots of people think that it just for some sick people to get off at kids, but it is good and the psychological parts of the story are quite good. Plus I find the op song strangely catchy.

Hayate the Combat Butler is also a favirout, and probably one of the best comedies.

1. Outlaw Star, City Hunter, Gungrave, Gunsmith Cats, The Big O

2. I don't really have a preference. I mostly choose dubs, not because I prefer it per say, but because ever since I started watching anime back in the 90s I've watched a lot of VHS tapes that were dubbed, so I'm just used to watching anime dubbed. If a DVD had no dubbed track, or if my friend had me watch it in the original language, I won't mind.

3. For me, I have to say Outlaw Star is underrated. It's weird because whenever it gets mentioned, a lot of people say that they really liked it, but for whatever reason it doesn't have the same following as, say, Cowboy Bebop or Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's a bit of a pity, because it's a anime I swear by and has enough great characters and swashbuckling action to make it really memorable.

gonna thoroughly enjoy this. And excuse the really long list for the first questions... *yeah, anime/manga, definately one of my uber-specialized interests.*

1) Robotech, Macross Saga, Tengen Toppa Gurren lagann, FLCL, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the shell (lumping them all together), Mobile suit gundam (ill lump these together as well, though my favorites would probably be Gundam wing, G Gundam, and Gundam 00, and the original.), Guin Saga, Slayers, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, Excell Saga, Full Metal Panic, Elfen Lied, Outlaw star, Cowboy Bebop. Ill cut this list short by far...

2) I personally prefer subs, since the dubs dont really capture the nuances of japanese as well.

3)There are alot of underrated series. Outlaw star is one of them, love the character development, and the characters themselves. Loved the quirks of the series as well as the banned episode. another one I think is underrated is Guin saga. Without spoiling the plot and whatnot, lets just say, the soundtrack = awesome. Why you ask? Nobuo Uematsu made it. Also from what i have heard, the writer for a bunch of the pre- FF7 final fantasy games is the one who wrote the story for the anime, well adapted the original literature to Anime. So far though, it is similar to FF9 in story/story telling.

1. all DragonBall series...i grew up with that stuff.. rorouni kenshin. and the Lupin movies.

2. subs, it sounds more epic and less corny in japanese.

3. i forgot what question 3 was.

1. Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, and Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei.

2. I prefer subs because I really dislike a lot of voice acting used for dubs (any one female under the age of twenty is given a ridiculous falsetto). Also, a lot of anime has pretty bad animation, and reading subs can help me ignore the animation and focus on the plot.

3. Not a lot of people watch Soul Eater because it has only recently been released in the US, and MTNN and SZS haven't been published in the US at all. Also, I dislike that a lot of people think that Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is better than the first FMA anime (I guess it's just my opinion, but I like the first one more).

1: Fullmetal Alchemist, that's the only one I have. I certainly like it, although the movie was, terrible in my opinion.

2: Dubs, I'm not Japanese and I don't pretend to be. Without the audio you miss out on so much and subtitles don't make up for it.

3: I wouldn't know.

To the person above, I haven't seen FMA: Brotherhood yet because it hasn't be released in Australia (as far as I know). I'll be interested inseeing it though, I've got a manga volume and I liked that.

Hey Avarice, why don't you check out some more titles, and increase the amount of shows you have seen. You could begin by watching classics like Cowboy Bebop, or things like Death Note or Code Geass.

I too started out wondering what is the use of watching it in Japanese, when English is available, or even watching Japanese, because I thought I would miss out on things they are saying and emotions. But after watching some japanese only I actualy found you can pick up things that are not properly carried when watching english, such as voices tend to get anoying, I am sorry if that sound  . But stopping at only one show can lessen what experience you can have.

To Bardleigh.

I don't mean to spite you or anything like that, and I mean no disrespect to those that prefer subs, but I find the Japanese voices more annoying than the English dubs. I've tried watching Dragon Ball, Azumanga Daioh, Kanon, and many others in Japanese, and I said, "He he he he, I'm watching this stuff in English." I miss the emotion in subs, because my eyes are completely focused on subtitles, and when I do focus on the acting, it sounds cheesier than the dubs to me. Don't get me wrong, there are subs that I prefer over dubs (mostly classic Godzilla movies), and I respect subs for what they are, I just prefer to watch anime in my own language (not to mention that I'm obsessed with dub actors).

Yes people should wach what they prefer, people should repect what they prefer, though in many cases that doesn't happen. It is great to see you have tried some subs, what ticks me off is certain people on the internet that hate the other without any experience. I personally prefer dubs in certain shows, and subs in others.

That reminds me, a good anime that has recently been dubbed is one called "Spice and Wolf", the subs have been quite popular especialy since it is a lot about economics, it has been an obession to, I hear any of the op's or ed's and I get emotional. Check out the dub trailer (there is nudety, but it isn't explicit).

Holo is one of the most popular anime characters, though to me she will always be Horo, she is a wolf deity and like a reverse werewolf, though her wolf form makes Jacob look like a wussy. I couldn't wait for each week recently for the second season.
