I saw it for the first time yesterday and the second time today. I LOVE THAT FILM.
I cried when that giant tree got blown up and that navi woman's dad died, it's the music that gets me, it really gives the scene that emotional oomph. Some parts are really sad.
I love the visuals, it's hard to tell what's a prop and what's CGI.

You know what? I think I shall have an avatar avatar lol.
edit: DONE

You know I was just joking. I don't even want to see that overrated piece of crap  and personally, I prefer those 3 movies over "Avatar" anyday.

She didn't understand your sarcasm. Lay off. I don't intend to see Avatar, but at least I am respecting it.

I used to love Ferngully when I was younger. I think there were three main reasons: it was an environmental story, it was set in Australia, and it had Robin Williams in it. Now that I have become a cyncial shell of my childhood self, I find it hard to watch films with such a message, partly because they seem to be designed to induce a guilt trip.

Cool. :-) I think environmental messages are cool. I loved the message in Wall-E all those SUPER OBESE people LOL! and yet so true it could happen and the waste on are planet. and in the Halo universe People find Reach another planet and inhabit it since earth is get this "overpopulated!) The people in Avatar go back to there ravaged earth in the end. I hope we can see it in the sequel. :-) and since I'm interested in the box office total AND Sequels make MORE money usually (not topping #1 usually) I'm curious CAN Avatar 2 top the 1st (although IMO it'll be 4 years or more before we see a sequel since James Cameron is working on another movie next.)

Battle Angel Alita? Or is he working on a completely different one?

(looks up Wikipedia)

Sanctum? WTF? Doing a Fantastic Voyage remake, though...

To be frank, I've only really watched the majority of one James Cameron film, and that was The Abyss. I watched pretty much everything from the Titanic beginning to sink onwards from Titanic, the nightmare nuclear explosion sequence from Terminator 2 (enough to nearly give me nightmares), and the beginning of the original Terminator film. I'm more of a TV show person than I am a movie person, and I am more of a book person than either.

I don't think Avatar 2 will top the original. It is rare for sequels to do that. As Avatar broke the original ground, it will be extremely difficult for the sequel to top it. Then again, another (indeed, the only one to date) Cameron-directed sequel blew the original out of the water. I'm talking about Terminator 2.

I loved Ferngully as a kid too. But...because I'm a snarky a-hole, there were 2 separate moments when I leaned over and said to my boyfriend or friend "uh...are we watching Pocahontas?" and "do you remember Ferngully?" A couple of the scenes were taken almost verbatim from those other cartoons.

Along that line, check this out (mild spoiler alert, but hilarious):

I still enjoyed Avatar A TON. Just don't go into it expecting to think too hard. It's a "delightful action-filled romp" more than anything else.

Well, it's official. Avatar has surpassed Titanic as the highest grossing film of all time, without adjustment for inflation. You may all start panicking...now.

Adjusted for inflation, however, Gone with the Wind and Star Wars are still at the top of the heap. At least in the US box office.

OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! *big grin* *squeals* *jumps around*

I think that is a perfectly adequate explanation of how much I loved the film I'd been waiting for for 18 months. Usually you can tell when it's CGI over motion capture, but here, though I knew it was fake, it just looked so...REAL.

And I'm one who usually sits there and notices the small things, I was focusing on the SFX while watching the movie :D

Part of me is happy it has overtaken Titanic because I loved it, however Titanic has a special place in my heart (I did have an obsession with the ship about 8 years ago that is still quite powerful today), and Titanic was the first movie I ever considered my 'favourite.' Along with The Green Mile those feelings remain to this day, so I am also a bit sad that it is no longer at the top. But I'm glad it wasn't overtaken by rubbish like Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

I have an interesting question. Avatar is at about $552 Million U.S. and all I keep hearing is 3-D= higher ticket prices etc. over and over again SO factoring OUT the couple extra dollars for 3-D How MUCH do you think it would have made by now?

My ticket cost £8.60 and I thought it was worth every penny. I don't see how anyone could feel ripped off after seeing that film.

I know but I meant avatar as in the film, not the actual alien.
Assuming you're talking to me here
