I agree 100 percent. It used to be in these shows, that even the thought of kissing was "gross", now, according to the New Disney, if you don't get your first kiss by at least twelve, you're either a nerd or a creep. This kind of pressure can't be good on self-esteem, and as I said before, for a person with Asperger's, it can be torture. :x

I've actually come to wonder if there are such things as 'kids' anymore. I mean, I've seen the clothes and shoes they sell, and they look more like clothes and shoes grown ups wear. I'm finding it kind of difficult to explain, but they don't really have those cute shoes and sandals for little girls, for one. It's just that they seem to grow up so quickly.

If I was growing up today, my mother would probably have to make all of my clothing by hand or get vintage things from the thrift stores. Three quarters of the cloathing on the market for little girls would have been a sensory hell for me. The majority of the litlte "boys" T shirts on the market today seem to actualy be gender neutral anyway. Kids these days aren't really being allowed to be kids for very long. Society and media dictates they must become a teenager as young as seven. On my My Little Pony fourms, many have noticed how new the ponies at the thrift stores seem. It's as if litlte girls only played with them once and then outgrew them. If you look at a pony from the 80's, it's usualy all scuffed up and "loved" where as aside from some matted hair, the newer ones look fresh out of the package. There are reports of girls as young as five with anerexia and four year olds concerned with their body image.

Oprah...and it was back in 2001 or so. Imagine what things are like now.

makes sense.

I am a looney tunes fan. They should put more Looney Tunes cartoons on TV.

My favourite cartoon of the 90's was Animaniacs.

the 90's had some good stuff, but I must rush to the defense of both Chowder and Flapjack. Both those shows are funny and, more importantly to me, brilliantly animated and full of well designed characters.

Cartoon Network UK isn't too bad as CartoonNetwork too has 90's classic cartoons, boomerang has pre late 90's shows and some of noughties shows such as Codename Kids Next Door and Billy and Mandy, as for Nicktoons, I like SpongeBob but I wish it wasn't on the all the time and programs like Fairly Odd Parents are good but I wish Rugrats were on. But Disney channel blew and the other channels are getting worse.

I miss watching Inspector Gadget and Robot Jones, I miss the the old 80's cartoon style (I grew in the 90's) when producing were low on budget and didn't rely on computers for animation but the story lines were awsome. Now too many kids (actually other people) only care about the quality appearance, not the storyline and were in econmic crisis but 80's were too. People are doing the same thing with games.

My other rant is, I remember when I was 8, I loved Powerpuff Girls and was doing what a normal child does, now NT 8 year old girl who used to live next door behaves like a teenager from the grouchiness to shouting in public.

I agree with everyone saying that kids are growing up too fast. I get a little sad when I see those teach your baby to read commercials due to I'm afraid of the psychological repercussions down the road.

Also kids programmes have become too dumbed down and silly and alot of it is just little colourful things making noises, I want to see some educational stuff or atleast something that isn't completely dumbed down. I want kids to learn something goddamnit, and not just the meaning of friendship, actual issues and subjects shown in a child friendly way without wrapping them in cotton wool.

Agree completely.

Just to add MORE to my rant, I have to ask: Why has it become such a big deal to mention death?!? I mean, in my day (yeah, I know, I sound old :D ), we had Are You Afraid Of The Dark, that not only mentioned death, it also shown it at times, that one Rugrats cartoon with the pillbug dying, and Disney Channel cartoons such as Gargoyles had deaths left and right.

Now, the closest thing to a death is "He GETS you!" and shows like iCarly , they just make death out to be lighthearted and funny, really, what the hell? Are we THIS wrapped up in bubble wrap?! The only show that ever mentioned death on Nick post-90s was Avatar: The Last Airbender, now we don't even see that anymore (unless you have Nicktoons channel, it's on there :) )

That reminds me of an episode of iCarly (I was watching it with my little sister, honest! ) in which the main guy character was embarrassed because he hadn't gotten his first kiss and when everybody found out they started teasing him. These characters are, like, in Jr. High! I'm 18 years old and I haven't even had my first kiss yet! :x

Kids these days, eh?

Honestly, it's pretty dumb to make fun of someone because they haven't kissed, TV or otherwise.

Another thing, is anyone else absolutely SICK of the overuse of CGI cartoons? As much as I like Pixar for it's films, I feel that they're to blame for the dying-off of Traditioinal Animation, them and Dreamworks. It seems the only genres of animation are:

1. Sugary sweet CGI baby shows.

2. CGI Dreamworks cash cows only 10-12 year old boys can tolerate.

3. Flash animation teenage drama.

While I like a good CGI cartoon every once in a while, I feel that they need to cool it down a bit. With The Princess And The Frog's release, it seems that there is a little bit of hope for 2-D yet, but I'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

I hate CGI. I like animation MUCH better. If you're not going to do animation, then you should do it live. CGI is dumb, I think. Besides, the animators working on cartoons or movies are artists. And I quite appreciate their work. Very much. Animation gives something to it. It's like to me, CGI is much too fake, odd as it may sound.

Something else is, like the dialogue and stuff they say in shows these days. It's like their meant to be funny, I guess, but they're weird. And I really don't know what's so funny about doing stupid things you see on tv now. I mean, like the closest thing I saw as a kid was possibly Gizmoduck falling, and then landing in the Beagle Boys' car, and them tossing him. Or when he'd speak to the camera. I liked to think he was talking to me.

Agreed. The last children's show I payed any attention to was "The Fairly OddParents", though I really do like that show.
