I'm not totally above bathroom humor (I liked Shrek), but a lot of "comedies" now go way too overboard with it. There's nothing intelligent at all in them any more, it's just graphic non-stop puking, pooping, obscenities, or acting sexual with weird, nasty stuff like, IDK, raw meat or live animals. My mother says she hasn't found a single new comedy funny since Robin Williams stopped acting in them except for some of the animated Dreamworks movies. I guess we're both getting old.

On the other hand, I loved Ren and Stimpy and my mom thinks they're HORRIBLE. I guess she can't see the clever, retro-esque humor that's behind gross stuff like Stimpy's Magic Nose Goblins or Ren's nerve-endings.

CGI, I can't stand it. Totally lazy way to make a movie, doesn't look real at all to me and takes me out of it. It seems like a lot of movies nowadays go for these crazy CGI visuals at expense of story.

I hate how they don't take risks anymore. I look through the catalogs and see a bunch of remakes and sequels and book adaptions, and while there's nothing wrong with that I don't see that many original ideas. I think the problem is that they don't want to risk the film bombing, so they choose to make films that already have a fanbase. I keep wondering if there'll ever be things like Star Wars and other original idea explosions in the big budget movies again.

Also while I don't mind CGI, I cringe when I see it applied where practical effects would have worked just fine, or better.

It seems like the film makers are more focused on showing off the modern technology they use instead of making an enjoyable movie. I watched the new Super Man recently, and it was almost torture.

How about a "C" rating ??

This would apply to most films. Perhaps an "O" rating ("This film contains some original plot/character development") would be a more practical alternative? Most of Hollywood's recent catalogue wouldn't earn it.

CGI can be a brilliant way to embellish details, reduce costs (crowd multiplication, for instance) and minimise risks for the actors. When used to gild existing work, it can be brilliant. It's when entire effects are CGI (Godzilla, for instance) that it comes across looking fake, and that gets used so much now...

The lack of originality.

If it's an action or fantasy film, expect it to be a reboot or a sequel to a previous classic film only angsti-fied.

Important character dies in sad scene and eveyone cries and mourns character. Dead character turns out not to be dead and saves the day. Hate that - almost all films have it it's too predictable.

On average I see 1 or 2 movies a week, and I rarely see anything terrible. The last bad movie I saw, I think, was Thor 2.

RaisedbyIgnorance, you should check out Snowpiercer. It's a fantasy action film that is original and philosophical.

Really idiotic films like Transformers Age of Exhaustion. I've been reading reviews to see how bad it truly is, and even the fan-boy sites hate it. Said to lack believable characters, any semblance of plot, reasonable dialogue, and anything else you might find in a GOOD movie. One critic said as he was leaving the theater, he overheard people saying "how could a movie with so many explosions be so boring." That pretty much sums it up.

I hate trailers these days. They used to be something I quite enjoyed but now they just ruin most movies

I feel that the art of true acting is becomming lost. Many actors and actresses in today's film have no talent and they are carbon-copies of one another.
