Either Wonderland or Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, as envisioned by Tim Burton.

Colorized?!?!?! ARGH!! !!

I mean...

Are they? (hee)

I'm a lingering disciple of the old AMC devotion to restoring but not altering classic films... so terms like "colorization" cause a reaction... I suppose the fact that the Pottersville colors are so bright kinda supports that, if you think about it. In the black and white original, Pottersville is a dark and sad place, a thing of horror. Something's missing and you can see it... well, it's George but I wasn't referring to him... but the very music played often conveys the feeling of a cold wind blowing through the broken windows of George's now empty and abandoned old house. At least that's my spin on the music, anyhow.

So a brightly colored Pottersville doesn't give that kind of image. Especially if it's pretty... Although some would say evil likes to put on a pretty face...

I'm getting a couple hundred yards off topic, ain't I?

X-FIles: Fight The Future.
Runaway Bride (Decent movie for a chick flick, but really good scenery...I forget what the location was.)

there is a 2-DVD set in which one is colorized and one is monochrome. i never cared for mono-anything, name-call me with what you will- it is as reductive as monophonic sound IMHO. the colorized version is fully mono-compatible, btw, in that if you turn down the color it folds back into monochrome in the same manner of hitting the mono button on your stereo fm receiver to fold a stereo signal back into mono. they included the true mono version in the set to assuage concerns of purists anyway.

the garishness of the potterville scenes reinforces the banal mercenary mindset of its owner, mean ol' old man potter, a green eyeshades-type who knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing, and especially ignorant of the value of george. the town becomes demurely pretty again when george is back in the game.

that is my interpretation, which the colorization plays into nicely. and it was designed to look garish more than pretty.

LOL

No, it looks pretty scary in the Harry Potter universe and there's loads of bullies. Bedford Falls seems a bit gentler.

Oh, yeah, I figured they must have been going for garish (even though it can also be viewed as pretty ) , but while I'm a purist, it's more than that... It's the version I grew up with (a big deal with Christmas movies for me) and I like the Gothic feel of the darkness in Pottersville on that night.

Sounds like an excellent set, too... I prefer any set that gives you more. I wonder if there's anyone who likes both versions? But yeah, it's gratifying to see someone who doesn't try to get more money by selling separate versions of the same movie, the way they do now.

Star Trek or Star Wars because I would love to explore outer space and vacation on a paradise world. I would love to visit about half the worlds that Tim Burton has dreamed up.

Deep Space Nine -- to hang around the Promenade with occasional trips to Quark's or the holosuites. And hopefully not be killed by the occasional random malfunction or Jem'Hadar.
